Reporting to the Director of Entrepreneurial & Economic Growth, the primary objective of the Economic Development Specialist is the coordination and implementation of the region's business support initiatives, with a focus on connecting, and/or facilitating the appropriate support and expertise required to analyze and present recommendations to businesses.
GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:
Working with members of the Ignite Business Growth team, the Economic Development Specialist is accountable for connecting and providing the appropriate services and support required for businesses in the Capital Region of New Brunswick. Responsibilities include reviewing and analyzing different components of the business, compiling data, presenting recommendations, and providing guidance to local businesses for resources. Working in close partnership with all stakeholders and the Ignite team, the incumbent sources and facilitate business expertise that identifies and fosters new growth opportunities.
NATURE AND SCOPE
: The Economic Development Specialist receives general supervision from the Director of Entrepreneurial & Economic Growth, can work well independently and relies on experience, keen business acumen, and reliable judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
The incumbent works in close partnership with all stakeholders, business leaders, entrepreneurs, the community, and works collaboratively with all team members to support regional economic development initiatives.
KEY SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Work with Ignite team to:
Promote the community and local businesses.
Serve as the business community liaison and first point of contact for existing business owners.
Provide a general overview of the respective steps involved in starting a business in the community.
Develop detailed project plans to drive changes and improvements for businesses.
Access and/or provide business coaching and counselling to existing businesses to assist with growth potential.
Advise clients with respect to preparation of business plans, marketing, training, financing, and Federal and Provincial programs.
Work with local leadership to implement initiatives, projects, and programs in accordance with economic development strategy.
Represent the community on various committees as required.
Prepare preliminary analytical research reports and make recommendations.
Participate in initiatives related to entrepreneurship development in the community.
Act as a liaison between local organizations, businesses, and individuals and representatives of government, business, and industry concerning economic development.
Assist the Director of Entrepreneurial & Economic Growth on the execution of Ignite's Business Growth Strategy.
Assist the Director of Entrepreneurial & Economic Growth on the creation and implementation of the local market strategies
Develop and manage project initiatives such as lead generation, sales proposals, and marketing programs.
Manage and develop client sales funnel.

The promotion of funding programs and/or initiatives to client groups.

Project development, evaluation, and administration.
Developing community and regional networks.
Conducting economic, demographic, and market research.
Knowledge of:
Program evaluation and program performance measurement
Financial management and analysis, such as, preparing a business plan and proposal development and evaluation
QUALIFICATIONS:
Recognized university business degree with relevant area of study (i.e. marketing, economic and/or community development, business administration, management, etc.)
or
an acceptable combination of post-secondary education, experience and training.
3+ years relevant economic development experience an asset
Experience working in a collaborative, goal-oriented environment
