As the official economic development partner to the City of Burnaby, BBOT represents more than 1,100 businesses and plays a pivotal role in driving advocacy, innovation, and community prosperity.

Your Impact
Economic Development & Policy Leadership
Champion BBOT's role as the City of Burnaby's official economic development office through strategic projects and partnerships.
Conduct policy research and analysis to identify, articulate, and advocate for business policy positions aligned with member priorities.
Build BBOT's policy and research capacity through data dashboards, advocacy submissions, and sector insights.
Use data and insights to identify and support high-growth sectors through research, programs, and collaboration.
Track and analyze economic trends to inform BBOT's advocacy and programming.
Advocacy & Government Relations
Work with the President & CEO to influence public policy through relationship-building, consultation, and engagement with all levels of government.
Serve as staff lead for the Economic Development and Government Relations Committees.
Inform strategic communications with research and analysis to shape public discourse on key business issues.
Collaborate with Marketing & Communications to translate advocacy positions into persuasive, public-facing communications, including media releases, opinion pieces, and thought leadership.
Track, measure, and communicate advocacy outcomes and influence through data, reporting, and storytelling.
Partnership Development & Collaboration
Partner with the President & CEO to strengthen and expand strategic relationships with the city, post-secondary institutions, Indigenous partners, and industry groups.
Strengthen partnerships with Indigenous communities to advance economic reconciliation.
Grants, Funding & Resource Development
Research, identify, and secure grants and external funding to support BBOT's economic development and advocacy priorities.
Track project milestones, deliverables, and ROI across all major initiatives.
Data & Market Intelligence
Lead BBOT's data and intelligence function by gathering, analyzing, and sharing insights on business trends, workforce dynamics, and economic performance.
Maintain dashboards and analytics that support evidence-based decision-making and performance tracking across economic development initiatives.
Internal Leadership
Contribute to organizational strategic planning and cross-team collaboration.
Model BBOT's values of listening, belonging, and action, fostering a high-performance, collaborative culture.
Qualifications
Minimum 5+ years of experience in economic development, policy research, or government/public-sector analysis.
Proven experience in policy research, government relations, and business advocacy.
Strong relationship management and coalition-building skills with the ability to align diverse interests around shared goals.
Demonstrated ability to conduct research, analyze data, and develop evidence-based strategies.
Knowledge of Metro Vancouver's business, industry, and government landscape.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a talent for distilling complex issues into persuasive messages.
Proficiency with CRM systems, analytics tools, and performance tracking.
A passion for strengthening Burnaby's business community and advancing inclusive growth.
Working Conditions
Hybrid schedule (3 days in office, 2 remote after onboarding).
Occasional early morning/evening events.
Off-site business visits and events (vehicle required).
