Position Summary:

As the main point of contact for all field placement partnerships for the School of ECE, the Field Coordinator, School of ECE (Coordinator) establishes, develops, and works to increase the number of working relationships with sector partnerships. The Coordinator represents the School of Early Childhood Education in the community by building and maintaining professional partnerships with all field partners and is provides effective coordination, planning, and communication of the placement opportunities to sector partners.

Key responsibilities:

  • Trains and supports Field Liaisons and faculty in the use of and access field related materials to ensure department capacity.
  • Develops and maintains on-line database of all placement sites, and database of all current student placements.
  • Ensures field placement materials for all courses are prepared, posted, and available each semester.
  • Applies technological knowledge to recommend refinements to business processes.
  • Adapts internal field placement processes to mitigate unforeseen events (i.e., strike, change in regulations).
  • Engages is sector \xe2\x80\x9cresearch\xe2\x80\x9d to identify prospective agencies-utilizing strategies included on site visits, cold calls, networking, nurturing existing partnerships, staff leads and email solicitation. Compiles reports on field placement data.
  • Actively participates in program related associations to promote the School of ECE.
  • Builds and maintains professional partnerships. Assists community partners in evaluating field placement requirements to generate appropriate student field placements and maintain continuing partnerships.
  • Oversees 1500 placements, on average, each semester (including summer). Supports all students of the School of Early Childhood Education in their field placement experiences.
  • Visits students in class to conduct field placement information sessions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Educational and Experience Requirements:
  • Two-year diploma or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution in Early Childhood Education or related field is required.
  • Eligible to be a member of the College of ECE.
  • Minimum five (5) years\' experience and knowledge of field placement day-to-day operations oversight and mentoring of individual students.
  • Experience in the development and implementation of a system for placing large numbers of students in early learning settings.
  • Familiarity with curriculum and development in Early Childhood Education is required.
  • Previous experience in advising and/or mentoring students is required.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database systems at an advanced level are essential.
  • Knowledge of the Child Care field is required. Knowledge of The Child Care and Early Years Act and CECE is required.
  • Knowledge of College structure, policies and procedures is required.
  • Must have health assessment and immunization as required by the Ministry of Education and recommended by Toronto Public Health.
Skills and Attributes:
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills are essential. The ability to write for both print, and electronic media is required. The ability to speak to groups and to facilitate training and information sessions is critical.
  • Solid marketing and presentation skills are required to successfully promote the School of ECE and its students, to community partners and organizations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required to facilitate frequent contact with students and community partners. Requires solid customer service orientation. Some training in sensitivity related to serving a diverse student population is desirable. Some training, or previous experience in conflict resolution.
  • Able to travel on a weekly basis (i.e., field placement sites, community agencies, other campuses, etc.).
  • Demonstrated commitment to uphold the College\'s priorities on diversity and equity.
Interview process may consist of a practical skills component.
