OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the Reunification Supervisor, the Level 2 Family Reunification Support Workers requires individuals to provide support worker services for house parents and biological parents by providing care for youth and children, including holistic care that responds to the children’s physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual needs. The successful support worker will work alongside the house parents and biological parents to provide care for the youth and children.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible to teach, model, and support attachment-based parenting and in collaborating with other professionals around safety planning and service planning and attending to the daily maintenance of the home, working independently as well as a part of a team.
  • Supporting the Biological Parents in attaining skills needed to parent independently. The Support Worker, level 2 – Reunification Homes will be part of a team working in a Family Reunification home that provide a family-oriented environment for parents and their children.
  • Work alongside house parent to model healthy parenting and mentor parent in providing care for their youth and children that is both nurturing and structured.
  • Work alongside the parent to teach skills of meal preparation, nutrition, and budgeting.
  • Interact with the parent and children through shared activities, based on their developmental needs and interests, including attending parenting program and other recreational activities alongside parent.
  • Support parent with tasks required to parent independently- including meeting educational and vocational goals, securing housing, attending therapy, and in maintaining sobriety.
  • Use nurturing and strength-based language to support positive self-identity.
  • Support family in learning about their cultural identity in age-appropriate ways, including access to opportunities to learn or maintain Indigenous language.
  • Support healthy family connections through facilitating extended family contact in family visits, as directed by the guardian agency.
  • Attend monthly goal-setting meetings with house parent, biological parent and members of the Family Reunification team and support parent in achieving goals set out in the team meetings. Attend parenting classes alongside parent.
  • Provide daily logs indicating work done with family toward goal setting plan or assist house parent with completing monthly report.
  • Maintain accurate reporting utilizing daily file recordings, logs, email, incident reports, meetings, and phone conversations.
  • Communicate concerns, needs and observations to Case Manager and/or Community Coordinator in a timely manner.
  • Conduct light housekeeping duties and other daily household management responsibilities.
  • Follow guidance and direction of house parent and biological parent regarding routines and processes in the home.
  • Respond to all emergencies, contacting house parent, SECFS, medical professionals, and police as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Prior experience in the support services field considered. Training, education and/or experience in the helping field is considered an asset.
  • Follow SAI policies regarding confidentiality, social media use, and professional conduct.
  • Must have a Valid class 5 driver’s license and have access to a vehicle, and willingness to travel.
  • Must provide a current satisfactory criminal record (including Vulnerable Sector), Child Abuse Registry and Prior Contact Checks as a condition of employment.
  • Knowledge of the Child and Family Services (CFS) sector and legislation
  • Demonstrate knowledge and/or understanding of Indigenous perspectives, First Nations culture and traditional philosophies
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a warm disposition, with the ability to work collaboratively with others
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with a high attention to detail and respect for confidentiality
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to speak Anishinaabe preferred
  • Must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination prior to start date.
