Position Summary
The Early Childhood Educator Support Worker (ECE Support Worker) provides one-on-one support to a child with diverse abilities within a licensed group child care setting and contributes to the overall delivery of inclusive programming. When the child is independently engaged, the ECE Support Worker assists with general group activities, modeling positive behaviour and fostering a safe, supportive environment for all children. This role follows the child's individualized Care Plan and works closely with the Supervisor, ECE staff and families to support successful integration and participation. When the child requires less direct support, the ECE Support Worker assists more broadly with the group. The ECE Support Worker maintains a purposeful focus on achieving program goals and fostering meaningful outcomes for participants using trauma-informed approaches that prioritize safety, empowerment, choice and skill development. The ECE Support Worker upholds the Agency's values, policies and procedures in daily practice and follows the Agency's Code of Ethics to guide professional decision-making and behaviour.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Implement Individualized Care Plans -- Follow and adapt participant Care Plans in collaboration with Supervisors, families, and other professionals.
Plan and Deliver Developmentally Appropriate Activities -- Create engaging, inclusive, and purposeful programs that promote learning, growth, and participation.
Use Positive and Strength-Based Approaches -- Encourage participation and self-regulation through modeling, reinforcement, and supportive guidance.
Apply Learning Theories and Behaviour Strategies -- Utilize visual, verbal, and experiential techniques aligned with positive behaviour and early childhood frameworks.
Promote Emotional Well-being and Trauma-Informed Care -- Support children's emotional regulation through approaches emphasizing safety, empowerment, and choice.
Ensure Cultural Inclusion and Respect for Diversity -- Incorporate culturally safe practices that honor varied family structures, languages, and abilities.
Foster Family Communication and Engagement -- Build trusting relationships with parents/caregivers through daily updates, respectful dialogue, and shared decision-making.
Support Children's Health and Safety -- Maintain supervision, administer First Aid or medication per policy, and uphold hygiene, nutrition, and safety standards.
Monitor and Report Risks or Concerns -- Identify and respond to hazards, distress signs, or critical incidents in accordance with Agency and licensing protocols.
Collaborate Effectively with Staff and Teams -- Work closely with Supervisors, ECEs, and other colleagues to implement coordinated, high-quality services.
Demonstrate Leadership and Mentorship -- Model best practices for child guidance and assist in orienting new staff, volunteers, and practicum students.
Maintain Accurate Documentation -- Complete records, reports, attendance logs, and data collection promptly and in compliance with Agency standards.
Follow Agency and Licensing Standards -- Adhere to CARF accreditation, licensing regulations, policies, and health and safety requirements.
Contribute to Continuous Improvement -- Provide feedback and observations to Supervisors for program planning, quality assurance, and participant progress.
Engage in Community and Agency Initiatives -- Represent the Agency at community events, promote program activities, and collaborate with volunteers and stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications
Must be 19 years of age
Valid Early Childhood Educator Certificate approved by the British Columbia ECE Registry
One (1) year recent experience working with children with a minimum of 20 hours training in child development, guidance, health and safety or nutrition to meet licensing standards working with children 30 months to school age with diverse abilities in a licensed child care setting
Food Safe - Level 1
Demonstrated experience in relationship building and working with diverse family systems
Emergency Childcare First Aid and CPR B
Specific additional skills may be required based on the unique and individual needs of individual participants
