Job Summary:

The Early Childhood Educator collaborates closely with all other members of the program team to provide nurturing care and education to young children in a group setting, under the supervision of the Childcare Manager; in accordance with the goals and curriculum plans of the Duchess Early Learning Centre plus the philosophy and policies of the Centre and as well as maintain compliance with the Northern Health Regulations, the Ministry of Family Development and Child Services, and the Early Childhood Educators of BC Code of Ethics.

Purpose and Objective

As an Early Childhood Educator- you will provide a stimulating, safe and nurturing environment for children ages three years to five years old. You will create the atmosphere for the children to learn and grow through their play while implementing the Duchess Early Learning Philosophy Inspirations from Reggio Emilia, Montessori and Waldorf in the French and English Language. You will report to the Childcare Director and fulfill a wide range of duties relating to the delivery of quality of childcare expected at Duchess Early Learning Centre. You will adhere to all policy and procedures ensuring quality of care to be un-compromised of best practice at all times.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the constant supervision, safety and well being of all children.
• Recognizes and responds to the needs of each child by using developmentally appropriate teaching and child behaviour management techniques.
• Shares in the responsibility for planning, preparing and implementing stimulating, age appropriate activities that encourage children's creativity and learning and promote each child's social, emotional, cognitive and physical development.
• Participates fully and consistently as a conscientious team member in caring for the children and in the overall operation of the program and centre; maintains regular and open communication with program team members and all other co-workers.
• Establishes and maintains regular communication with parents.
• Ensures the program operates at all times in compliance with all child care licensing standards.
• Must know and be able to implement: DELC routines and practices; Ministry of Children and Family Development Child Care Licensing and Regulations, the Northern Health Department Safety and Guidelines, and Food Safe.
• Observes and records relevant information on each child's progress as required/as per Centre practices.
• Attends and participates actively in all program/centre, parental or other meetings as required.
• Shares responsibility for maintaining program equipment in good repair; assists with toy/equipment disinfecting.
• Shares responsibility for maintaining the play environments and storage areas in an organized and clutter-free condition.
• Participates in regular fire drills and other emergency procedures
• Maintains and deliver quality care to all children and families regardless of personal issues, distractions or difficulty of situation in a professional manner.
• Engages in positive collaboration with the other programs and early childhood educators of the centre in coordinating the effective use of equipment, facilities and personnel.
• Participates in ongoing professional development and attends/maintains all mandatory training.
• Participates in the supervision, training and mentoring of students or supply teachers as directed.
• Assists the Childcare Director in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by promptly reporting any existing and/or potential workplace hazards
• Performs other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Childcare Director or her/his designate.
• To release children only to those authorized by parent/guardian.

Qualifications:

• ECE License to Practice required or New graduates completing their 500 hours
• Current Standard First Aid & CPR-C Certification and Food Safe
• Additional courses/training related to child growth and development an asset.
• Experience working with children in a child care/recreational setting
• Three satisfactory professional references
• Physical ability to do the duties required
• Medical clearance and immunization record and COVID19 Vaccination Record.
• Must be a Canadian Resident and able to work in Canada.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $26.00-$27.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
