POSITION SUMMARY Working within the Early Childhood Education (ECE) department, Under the direction of the Daycare Supervisor, the Early Childhood Educator will provide hands-on childcare to children in Seabird Island Band\xe2\x80\x99s Early Childhood Education programs, in accordance with all childcare licensing requirements and the philosophies, policies, and objectives established by Seabird Island Band Management.
The successful applicant will provide high-quality, inclusive childcare that emphasizes emotional, physical, spiritual, cognitive and social development by offering individualized and group activities.
We are seeking Early Childhood Educators with their Infant/Toddler or Special Needs Certification.

WHAT YOU\'LL DO Child Care:
  • Provide developmentally and culturally appropriate activities and experiences for the children.
  • Assist with meals and snacks, ensuring dietary needs are met.
  • Provide a safe (emotionally and physically) and healthy environment with flexible routines. Provide direct supervision of children, ensuring developmentally appropriate experiences.
  • Encourage parental involvement in children\xe2\x80\x99s learning.
  • Ability to honor individuality, diversity and children\'s emerging interests within community and family contexts.
  • Aid in the development of peer relationships, social behavior and supporting a child\xe2\x80\x99s resilience.
  • Records Keeping and Attendance Tracking:
  • Maintain attendance for children.
  • Follow the procedures for maintaining health records and for administrating medication.
  • Immediately report all accidents, injuries and illnesses to the Daycare Supervisor, and record such incidents in the communications book.
  • Immediately report all cases of (suspected) child abuse and or neglect to the Daycare Supervisor and /or follow the policy for reporting.
  • Assist in and participate in field trips.
  • Contribute to the ongoing operation of the center.
  • Attend and participate in regular staff meetings.
  • Follow licensing regulations.

WHAT YOU BRING Education
  • Early Childhood Education Certificate and current license to practice required.
  • Infant/Toddler Certification is required.
Experience/Skills
  • Experience working with children in an Early Childhood Education environment is required.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of early intervention, child development, family centered practice and community based services required.
  • Working knowledge of appropriate assessment tools is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of social-economic issues affecting urban Aboriginal children and families on and off reserve is an asset.
  • Excellent coordination and time management skills required.
  • Ability to follow through with tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Physically & emotionally capable of carrying out the duties of this position while maintaining a positive and nonjudgmental attitude.
Requirements
  • Always maintain confidentiality.
  • Must provide satisfactory immunization and tuberculosis testing results.
  • Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Current Childcare Facilities and Licensing approved First Aide Certification
  • Proficient computer skills with the Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams.)
  • Proficient interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Ability to agree as well as adhere to Seabird Island Band Human Resources (HR), Finance, and Information Technology (IT) Policies and Procedures, etc.
  • Knowledge, respect and understanding of St\xc3\xb3: l\xc5\x8d culture, traditions and language or willingness to learn.
  • Experience working with First Nations community is considered an asset.
  • Valid BC Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License with a clean Driver\xe2\x80\x99s Abstract within the last 5 years.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
