Job Description


POSITION SUMMARY: Provides professional driving instruction to clients in a community setting by conducting assessments and lessons and working with the occupational therapist to restore the client to independent driving ability. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide driving instruction to clients in the community
  • Implement goal directed driver training as per the treatment plan designed by the Occupational Therapist
  • Conduct driving assessments with an occupational therapist by giving directions, maintaining vehicle safety and implementing instruction upon request of the OT
  • Collaborate and consult with other team members in the promotion and well being of the client
  • Identify issues with licensing to the client and OT to facilitate attaining a license
  • Prepare and accompany clients to MTO road tests as required
  • Organizes and implements the New Driver Classroom Course if certified to do so
  • Complete, maintain and report clear and accurate documentation related to client care, adhering to confidentiality and privacy legislation, contract standards and the documentation standards identified in the policies and procedures of DATS
  • Participates in preparation for and attendance at marketing/education presentations and tradeshows
  • Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional associations
  • Function within the current licensing standards and expectations of the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario
  • Ensure vehicle maintenance and repairs are conducted in a timely manner as required in the vehicle manual
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Certification as a Licensed Driving Instructor is required
  • Certification as a classroom instructor is beneficial
  • A valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and impeccable driving record are required
  • The ability to work independently within a community setting is required
  • Excellent written and oral communication and client teaching skills are required
  • Well developed interpersonal skills are required
