Job Description

The driver/yard worker is responsible for delivering products to customers, loading/unloading trucks, providing customer service, transferring products between locations, and performing various merchandising/replenishment/maintenance activities in the lumber yard, warehouse, and store. This is a mixed position where significant time is spent as both a driver as well as a general yard associate. Heavy lifting is required.

Overview of DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform safe, highly accurate, efficient, on-time deliveries following company procedures
• Move heavy and bulky merchandise for customers and sales personnel (loading customer vehicles, loading/unloading delivery trucks, moving around product for sales team, replenishing lumber bins, etc.).
• Keep yard and warehouse well maintained in accordance with company standards
• Provide instruction to students and other part time staff (as instructed by Yard Manager)
• Perform light vehicle maintenance (check oil, etc.), maintain maintenance records, coordinate maintenance with service providers (tires changes, inspections, etc.).
• Provide friendly service to customers and report any customer issues to management.
• Work in a safe manner in accordance with provincial and federal safety legislation. Follow all safety precautions when operating company vehicles and loading or unloading freight. Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management in order to have the situation corrected.
• Coordinate waste disposal for store (dump runs, recycling runs, etc.).
• Transfer product between Stellarton and Pictou locations.
• Do odd jobs and run errands.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must maintain a good driving record and be able to lawfully operate 16' flatbed truck and forklift.
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers, management, and other employees in person, by telephone, or by FM radio.
• Ability to visually verify the contents of shipments.
• Ability to safely operate loading, unloading, and transfer equipment (forklifts, pushcarts, etc.), as well as company vehicles. Must safely secure cargo.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must move merchandise weighing up to 100 pounds to and from company vehicles in the delivery process.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

• Reports directly to the Yard & Warehouse Manager

Schedule (two week alternating):
Week 1: Monday to Friday 7:00am-4:00pm

Week 2: Tuesday-Friday 7:00am-4:00pm, Saturday 7:45am-4:15pm
