Job Title: Housing outreach Worker Reports to: Homeless Prevention & Outreach Coodinator This position requires a person with lived experience and working with Black communities and deserving/marginalized/homeless individuals. Speaking French and other African languages would be a benefit to the organization. The focus region is Surrey and Langley. This postion is dependant on funding and is renewed annually.
  • Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Assess intake applications for Rental and Utility assistance, collect confidential information and documents in a secure manner, enter data and maintain cofidential client files.
  • Assist clients with all aspects of housing search and placement into permanent housing
  • Complete housing applications, prepare necessary documentation and negotiate with Landlords and property managers.
  • Coordinate with movers when clients are ready to move into housing and associated housing set ups.
  • Food, furniture and clothing donation pick up and distribution.
  • Provide information, supports and referrals for housing options, Community and employment agencies, Social Services, and related government services (e.g., Child tax credit, immigration issues)
  • Advocacy and education on Landlord/ tenant rights and responsibilities.
  • Help clients establish and follow budget that will allow for housing stability.
  • Maintain computerized client records, daily activity logs, mileage logs and other reports as directed.
  • Attend Service providers network meetings.
  • Outreach to communities, Service providers and stake holders to promote the program.
Qualifications: Education, Training and Experience
  • Diploma in Community Social Service
  • Valid Class 5 Driver\'s License and Drivers\xe2\x80\x99 Abstract.
  • OFA 1 First Aid Certificate
  • Minimum work experience of two years (2) years OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience OR other qualifications determined to be reasonable and relevant to work.
Skills and abilities
  • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Proficient in Word and Excel
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport while maintaining boundaries with clients
  • Ability to relate positively and sensitively woth people from in varying cultural and socio-economic bankgrounds.
  • Conflict Resolution and Crisis Intervention Skills
  • Speaking French, Swahili, Arabic or other African languages would be an asset.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record check clearance.
  • Valid Canadian Driver\'s License with satisfactory Driver\'s Abstract and access to a car.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time Pay: $25.00-$28.00 per hour Expected hours: No more than 35 per week Benefits:

Schedule:
  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekends as needed
