Reports To: Trucking Director
Position Summary:
The Driver Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of driver operations, including recruitment, training, performance management, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. This role serves as the primary liaison between drivers and management while maintaining high standards of safety, efficiency, and employee relations.
Key Responsibilities:
Employee RelationsFoster positive working relationships with all drivers and transportation staff
Address employee concerns, grievances, and workplace issues in a timely and professional manner
Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with drivers to discuss performance and career development
Promote a collaborative and inclusive work environment
Facilitate communication between drivers and dispatch
Safety and ComplianceEnsure all drivers comply with federal, provincial, and company safety regulations
Conduct regular safety meetings and training sessions
Monitor driver performance through safety metrics and incident reports
Implement and maintain safety protocols and procedures
Coordinate with regulatory bodies for inspections and compliance audits
Maintain accurate records of safety training and certifications
Driver RecruitmentDevelop and execute recruitment strategies to attract qualified drivers
Screen and interview potential candidates
Conduct background checks and verify driving records
Coordinate pre-employment testing
Onboard new drivers and ensure proper documentation
Training and DevelopmentDesign and implement comprehensive driver training programs
Conduct orientation sessions for new hires
Provide ongoing professional development opportunities
Ensure all drivers maintain required certifications and licenses
Monitor training effectiveness and make improvements as needed
Disciplinary ReviewsInvestigate incidents and performance issues
Conduct disciplinary meetings and hearings
Implement corrective action plans
Maintain detailed documentation of all disciplinary actions
Ensure fair and consistent application of company policies
Garage LiaisonCoordinate with garage management on vehicle maintenance schedules
Communicate driver feedback regarding vehicle conditions
Facilitate resolution of vehicle-related issues
Ensure proper vehicle inspection procedures are followed
Collaborate on fleet management decisions
Required Qualifications
Minimum 3-5 years of supervisory experience in transportation or related industry
Strong knowledge of transportation regulations and safety standards
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and fleet management software
Preferred Qualifications
Commercial driver's license (CDL) or equivalent
Bilingual capabilities (English/French)
English is required as 20% of our drivers live outside of Quebec
