This position provides pick-up and/ or delivery services to and from the stores through application of safe driving and material handling procedures (as a relief or secondary driver) as well as provide basic general support and maintenance: in a Warehouse, food bank, or Ministry Unit.
Accountabilities and Responsibilities
Driving Responsibilities - 50%:Is responsible for the safe transportation of food, supplies, and other materials as needed. Ensures timely and efficient delivery and pickup of items and individuals as required by the organization. Loads and unloads goods at the Food Bank warehouse, store, destination and other storage facilities. Process materials by loading, unloading, sorting, storing donations; protecting the integrity of the donations. Selects donations for TS store distribution meeting established standards of quality and distinguishing between discarded and good quality merchandise according to The Salvation Army standards. Provides customers and donors with courteous and diplomatic service. Maintains and performs basic preventative maintenance on program vehicles to ensure operational efficiency. Takes responsibility for daily and overall safety, maintenance, operation of vehicle and records of such. Maintains knowledge of legislative and The Salvation Army policies such as Health & Safety Regulations, provincial and municipal highway traffic acts.

Swamping Responsibilities - 50%Restocks Food Bank Shelves for shopping program and Share Shelf with food items Rotates food items regularly to guarantee donation freshness in the Share Shelf Keeps donation area neat and clean on a regular basis Sorts, organizes, shelves all food donations according to relative nutritional value, requirements of storage Assembles, lifts and carries food hampers Selects and disposes perishable foods no longer suitable for distribution Maintains general upkeep of the Client Intake area; Food Bank shopping and sorting areas, Sharing Shelf Controls clients in the shopping area to maintain distance requirements, screening procedures Assists driver with donations pick-ups, loading and unloading, weighing In absence of a volunteer driver drives The Salvation Army vehicle Arranges for discarding of items that are not usable Breaks down carton boxes, brings them to recycle Assist with foods drives from donors (could be on Saturdays) Performs other duties as assigned

Managerial/Technical Leadership Responsibility:Reports directly to: FB Supervisor, to CMD in absence of FB Supervisor. Direct reports for this position: N/A.

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:Performs daily basic preventative maintenance on program vehicles to ensure operational efficiency; keeps mileage log and daily inspection reports. Considerable material responsibilities - safe material handling and picking up/delivering donations. Uses or maintains organization assets in accordance with established guidelines. The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Army's Mission Statement, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct.

WORKING CONDITIONS:The incumbent's work environment is typically at a food bank, soup kitchen, or in a warehouse. This is a casual position. Working environment is typically in a program vehicle. The worker is required to drive and be involved in vehicle-related activities and tasks up to 70% of the time. The work requires frequent amount of standing, walking, bending, repetitive lifting, and the ability to lift up to 39 pounds with no assistance from others. The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions: + Exposure to dirt and fumes etc. of the warehouse/loading dock

+ Dealing with angry and abusive people
The incumbent drives the vehicle in absence of a volunteer driver. The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor harm, injury or illness due to: + Physical attacks by others (and verbal) (e.g. Disgruntled clients acting out physically or verbally)
+ Exposure to infectious diseases
+ Moving objects
+ Sharp objects
The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety rules): + Universal Precautions
+ Non-violent crisis intervention training
+ Food Safe Training
+ Take Protective Barriers


education and experience Qualifications:Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities. Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures. Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered.
Education, Qualifications and Certifications: Completion of High School Diploma.



Experience and Knowledge:Up to 1 year of safe driving experience. Valid full Driver's License for the province; an original copy of a current Driver's Abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. Strong navigation skills. Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.


Skills and Capabilities:Demonstrated safe driving practices. Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility. Good interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Able to work independently and as part of a team. Professional, service-oriented approach internally and externally. Must comply with all Salvation Army policies, procedures, and associated legislation.

Work Hours: casual up to 20 hours per week, Monday-Saturday, between 7am-12pm.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $17.85 to $20.64 with a maximum of $24.77.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
