The Opportunity:

The Driver Coordinator/Planner is responsible for effectively managing the dispatching and planning for the Bulk division based on driver, customer, planning and equipment requirements.

Key Accountabilities:

Planning
  • Manage and effectively plan drivers and loads based on customer requirements in Canada and the US
  • Planning trucks effectively to reduce empty miles; managing the empty miles ratios
  • Dispatches trucks on planned loads; tracks dispatched trucks on a daily basis to ensure on-time performance
  • Implement efficient equipment utilization
  • Monitors and maintains trailer pools
  • Works with customers, other carriers and load brokers to effectively balance trucks
  • Books pickup and delivery appointments as needed
  • Provides after-hours support to other divisions and drivers as required
Dispatching
  • Participating in and supporting driver retention initiatives
  • Maintaining fair and equitable distribution of work
  • Communicating dispatch information as required
  • Monitoring driver performance/miles and reefer requirements
  • Monitoring and responding to driver satellite messages
  • Assisting with the development of the required driver skills i.e.: Customs, Hazmat, Hours of Service, Policy, Regulations, Satellites, etc.
  • Assisting with solutions regarding any driver concerns
  • Assisting with driver inquiries - payroll, miles etc.
  • Updating customer websites relative to the position/shift
  • Communicating and problem solving with customers as required
Other Duties
  • Provide onboarding and orientation support for new Bulk division drivers
  • Performs other duties as required
What You Need To Be Successful In This Role:
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of dispatching or effective trip planning experience is required
  • Experience in the transportation industry with multi-axel or heavy weight knowledge considered to be an asset
  • Possess a good working knowledge of North American geography
  • Positive, outgoing and friendly personality
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong self-discipline to effectively complete tasks without constant supervision
  • Self-starter with strong analytical, organizational and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently and as a team
