-Reporting to the Senior Drill & Blast Engineer is a crucial role in providing direct technical input to drive operational decisions at Gahcho Kue. This is a full-time, site-based position working 14 days on/14 days off rotation.

  • Optimize the mine drill and blast design, plans, and implementation to improve ore extraction while balancing productivity and pit slope-wall condition requirements.
  • Actively drive blast optimization programs through continuous evaluation of results and projects implemented in the drill and blast discipline.
  • Conducting Drill and Blast project planning, producing project schedules, analysing project progress and reporting on the project planning indicators.
  • Proactively work in the development of detailed & accurate short-term operational mine schedules: Active design D&B work, and actively pursue excellence in the role\xe2\x80\x99s deliverables.
  • Data analysis and trade-off studies to improve Drill & Blast related improvement.
  • Active reconciliation of demonstrated performance data with field data to identify and recommend actions and proactive problem solving.
  • Actively support a continuous improvement culture within the Mine Engineering department through leadership and coordination of drill and blast activities.
  • Assisting production staff in the completion of projects wherever necessary.
  • Assist with the design and implementation of mine engineering plans & projects.
  • Assist with the preparation of budgets and forecast.


  • Qualifications
    -Minimum of 5 years open pit mining experience preferred;
  • Drill and blast design and planning experience required;
  • Strong focus on systems and processes improvement required;
  • Strong background in open pit optimization and data driven analysis required;
  • Advanced skills with Deswik mine planning/scheduling or other software highly preferred;
  • Experience in Geotech and/or dewatering planning highly desired;
  • Ability to manage and lead a team to be a high performing team preferred;
  • Ability to drive accountability and achieve results;
  • Engineering Degree or equivalent;
  • Ability to communicate, share information and seek input from different teams;
  • Experience producing, developing and presenting reports;
  • Planning, time management, and problem-solving skills; and
  • Experience working at a remote mine site and in a cross-cultural work environment.
Leadership and Competencies:
  • Strong safety performance record and ability to implement established safety systems;
  • Advanced knowledge of mine design, optimization and scheduling software as well as the Microsoft Office suite;
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills; and
  • Excellent planning, time management and problem solving.
  • Experience in mining industry, preferably with operations in remote site is an asset;
  • Experience and Ability to work well in a fast-paced, cross-cultural environment is essential
  • Highly organised with excellent project management and analytical skills
Required qualifications in a Mining related discipline and extensive experience in open pit mining. It is envisaged that you have proven experience with mine planning, scheduling, mine design and planning. Coupled with this, the successful candidate will be a strategic thinker with superior reasoning and problem-solving skills, and excellent interpersonal skills.
