Overview



Hatchet Lake Lodge is a premier fly-in fishing destination in northern Saskatchewan, known for world-class trophy fishing, warm hospitality, and seamless wilderness logistics. We are seeking motivated individuals to join our team as

Dock Hand / Junior Fishing Guides

for the summer season.

This is a hybrid position that combines dock operations with guiding and guest interaction. It's an ideal opportunity for someone passionate about fishing, boating, and the outdoors who wants to gain professional experience in a northern lodge environment while contributing directly to guest satisfaction.

Position Summary



As a Dock Hand / Junior Guide, you'll play a key role in the daily rhythm of lodge operations -- supporting guest logistics at the dock, ensuring boats and aircraft are handled safely, and guiding guests on the water when required. You'll be part of the front-line team that delivers the high-quality experience Hatchet Lake Lodge is known for.

Key Responsibilities



Assist guests and guides with

loading and unloading gear

for daily fishing trips and fly-outs.

Dock, tie, and secure

floatplanes and boats safely and efficiently. Work alongside the

floatplane pilot

for pick-ups, drop-offs, grocery hauls, and freight handling.

Fuel, clean, and maintain boats

daily to lodge standards -- ensuring each is fully equipped, safe, and ready for guests. Perform

basic maintenance and troubleshooting

on boats, outboards, and related equipment as needed.

Guide guests

on fishing trips, ensuring safety, professionalism, and an enjoyable experience on the water. Assist with

preparing shore lunches

, including safe food handling and cleanup.

Stock guest cabins with firewood

and manage regular cutting, splitting, and stacking. Maintain the dock, boat fleet, and equipment areas in a clean, organized, and professional condition. Communicate effectively with guests, pilots, and lodge management to ensure smooth daily operations. Demonstrate a strong commitment to guest service, safety, and the lodge's high operational standards.

Qualifications



Strong work ethic and positive, team-oriented attitude. Comfortable working long hours outdoors in variable northern weather. Proven fishing and boating skills; confident operating boats and handling gear in a professional setting. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills -- able to engage respectfully with guests and fellow staff. Physically capable of handling heavy gear, firewood, and fuel safely. Mechanical aptitude or small-engine experience is an asset. Valid Pleasure Craft Operator Card (or willingness to obtain prior to season start). Previous guiding or lodge experience preferred but not required for capable candidates.

Work Schedule & Environment



Seasonal position (

June-August

). Daily schedule aligns with guest fishing times, flight operations, and evening dock duties. Room and board provided on-site at Hatchet Lake Lodge. Fly-in/fly-out access via charter from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Immersive outdoor work environment in a remote northern setting, with opportunities for advancement to full guide positions in future seasons.

Guiding opportunities, flight assistance, and shore lunch responsibilities may vary based on experience, performance, and operational needs. This is a physically demanding, outdoor role requiring teamwork, professionalism, and attention to safety at all times.
