Division Head, Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition


Join our team and be part of our bold new strategy for Precision Child Health to usher in a new generation of discovery, prevention, and treatment for children worldwide.


Effective June 1, 2024, the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition is seeking a full-time faculty position as Division Head, Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at the Hospital for Sick Children, 555 University Ave., Toronto, ON, which is an academic health science centre dedicated to the care of children affiliated with the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto.


Dedicated to supporting the growing diversification and spectrum of specialized clinical services, this role also provides unique opportunities for creative and professional activities and innovative translational and basic research.


The successful candidate will act as a key steward and mentor for our diverse faculty and trainees, be a key collaborator with our allied health and nursing partners, and innovative partner to our scientists in our world-class Research Institute. By championing clinical services, education, and research discoveries, you will advance the disciplines of paediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition. You will play a key strategic role in ensuring the alignment of academic activities with the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto.


The successful candidate will also serve as a strategic advisor and steward of the philanthropic funds to influence the strategic vision for the division. Achievements in clinical and research integration include the IBD Centre combining the expertise of SickKids IBD program and collaborations with the Research Institute partners. Additionally, the SickKids Transplant and Regenerative Medicine Centre (TRMC) is Canada's most research-intensive paediatric transplant program and the largest centre dedicated to comprehensive transplant care in the country.


The Division offers a highly competitive and accredited fellowship program and subspecialty fellowship opportunities. Canadian and international trainees have embraced the opportunity to pursue the fellowship, enabling trainees to gain in-depth experience and skills in the full spectrum of gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition. The Divisional clinical care programs encompass diagnosis and treatment for specialized tertiary and quaternary care in gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition, including liver and small bowel transplantation.


The successful candidate must meet the following qualifications: Leadership and mentoring experience with a track record of academic and research excellence in the fields of

Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition, and

demonstrated vision for child and youth health.


The successful candidate will be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto. Rank and salary ($320,000-$400,000) per annum will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be eligible for a benefits package which includes medical, dental, life insurance, long term disability insurance, group insurance, pension plan, vision care, academic allowance, and a relocation package.


All candidates must be able to function proficiently in English, hold an MD, MBBS or equivalent thereto and be certified or eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or have comparable qualifications. Candidates must hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. This position will remain open until filled.
