Job Description

The role of the Distribution & Logistics Support ("D&LS") is to ensure that The Victoria Rainbow Kitchen Society is operating under its mandate to "Feed People". Reporting directly to the Distribution & Logistics Supervisor, the D&LS is responsible for supporting all food based systems within the organization.

Employment Description and Expectations:



The Distribution & Logistics Support (On-Call Casual Position) will report to the Distribution & Logistics Supervisor.

Hours of work are based on the needs of the organization and will be on an on-call basis. Notice of work will be provided at the earliest convenience from the organization with an understanding that any changes to a scheduled shift will be discussed with the employee. As an on-call position, there is no guarantee of work or any commitment to a minimum number of hours scheduled. From time to time and at the discretion of the Executive Director, there may be some weeks where more hours of work may be available, including but not limited to Christmas season and vacation coverage. It is expected that the DSL Supervisor and the DSL Support person will discuss any requirement of extra hours as far in advance as possible. At no time shall extra or permanent hours be awarded this position without permission from the Executive Director and/or the HR Committee. As the Distribution & Logistics Support is a part time employee, it is expected that the Distribution & Logistics Support will ensure proper time keeping and not exceed proposed working hours. The Distribution & Logistics Supervisor will communicate, monitor and be responsible for time management of this role and adjust work hours accordingly. Approval from the Executive Director is required for any significant scheduling changes. Working closely with, and reporting directly to the Distribution & Logistics Supervisor, the Distribution & Logistics Support will assist with the daily operations of The Rainbow Kitchen Society in receiving, allocating, pick-up and delivery of goods. This position requires someone who is comfortable with being both 'hands-on' as well as working along-side and leading volunteers, and completing light administrative duties.

Responsibilities:



Following the lead of the D&LS, timely receiving and sorting of deliveries. Accurate tracking of inventory and allocation processes for various programs. Lead adherence to FoodSafe standards and maintain a safe and clean workspace. Support volunteer management with training and task clarity. Encourage communication, involve volunteers in decisions, manage feedback and appreciation. Maintain confidentiality and safeguard private information. Support with administrative duties as requested and in the absence of the D&LS. Person on call for driving company van for deliveries and pickups. Maintaining a clean driving record and class 5 Driver's License. Any other duty deemed as necessary for the operations of the organization, from time to time.

Wages and Remunerations:



The Food Security Coordinator will receive $21.03 hourly, All statutory remittances will be deducted from the above amount and pay will be issued every 2 weeks. The Employee will receive 4% vacation entitlement that is paid out with bi-weekly payroll and will not accrue paid time off outside of the provincially mandated 5 sick days. The on-call/casual employee is committed to informing Rainbow Kitchen of any times they may be unavailable for work. Rainbow Kitchen commits to an annual review process to evaluate both the employee and employer expectations and to ensure reasonable expectations are maintained. Ability to lift up to 50 Lbs. unassisted, repeatedly without issue. Ability to work outside in the exposed weather appropriately. Assisting in other Kitchen duties (washing dishes, helping breakdown meals and mealtime services, or set up for evening rentals, etc.)

Qualifications:



Must be willing to embrace the Mission Statement of Victoria Rainbow Kitchen Society Class 5 driver's license FoodSafe Certificate Level 1 WHMIS Certification First Aid Certificate an asset Conflict resolution training an asset Previous experience in the hospitality or food service industry an asset.
