Job Description

We are looking for dedicated and experienced winter maintenance professionals to manage and coordinate winter snow-clearing operations across the City of Toronto. Reporting directly to the Depot Supervisor, Dispatchers will be responsible for overseeing the dispatching of road and sidewalk plowing and salting operations from an assigned winter maintenance depot. They will manage communications with City of Toronto staff, coordinate winter maintenance activities, and ensure that all operational records (both paper and digital) are maintained accurately and efficiently. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle a fast-paced work environment. Successful candidates will rotate through various "on-duty" shifts throughout the winter season.

Key Responsibilities:



Participate in pre-event dispatcher training sessions and all GPS-related activities. Maintain a clear understanding of roles, responsibilities, and operations during winter snowfall events. Coordinate the dispatch of winter maintenance equipment as requested by City staff. Document and report all aspects of contracted operations. Maintain a detailed log of all winter operations dispatched by the City. Review and submit Telematic Device reports (e.g., The Watchdog report) daily. Track and maintain salt and brine inventory. Monitor weather bulletins regularly to predict workforce requirements and timelines. Maintain constant communication with the City of Toronto to ensure timely updates on operations, including beat completion, breakdowns, parked vehicles, and incidents/accidents. Complete GPS verifications of all route completions for designated infrastructure using GPS software systems, such as Geotab and Rubicon, to ensure accuracy and compliance with operational requirements. Ensure all records, documentation, and paperwork are accurate and complete. Review all documents and forms before submission to supervisors. Manage calls and text-based communication systems (e.g., TeamSense). Communicate with Supervisors regarding callouts, exceptions, delays, breakdowns, or missed locations. Coordinate with field operators to determine the status of operations. Monitor and manage the use of tablet devices and other company property issued to operators and drivers.

Qualifications/Skills:



At least 2 years of experience in scheduling, dispatch, or advanced customer service roles. Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment under pressure. Strong multitasking, time management, and prioritization skills. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and goal-focused. Knowledge of OTM Book 7, City of Toronto Levels of Winter Service, and Winter Contract Management is considered an asset. Strong understanding of winter maintenance practices. Proficient in computer skills.
