Position Overview
Reporting to the Supervisor, Transportation and Manager, Transportation & Facilities, the Dispatcher will be responsible for communicating, organizing and co-ordinating the transportation needs of our clients in a courteous and time efficient manner. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, remain calm under pressure, and work with little supervision.
Key Responsibilities
  • Answering Driver/staff calls
  • Communicating any transportation changes to the affected parties
  • Coordinate Driver assignments to maximize efficiency and vehicle coverage throughout the city
  • Dispatch staff and assign drivers to appropriate locations to solve issues
  • Manage and maintain daily trip sheet of arrivals, departures and appointments
  • Keep and maintain patient, escort and transportation/accommodation data on a number of databases
  • Communicate effectively with others both inside and outside the organization
  • Maintain a clean driving record
  • Maintain a friendly relationship with clients, drivers, and all Larga staff.
  • Assist with additional tasks as and when needed or assigned by management both within and outside role and department to support Larga operations.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 1 (one) to 2 (two) years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in fleet dispatching
  • High school diploma (or equivalent)
  • Experience with dispatch managing software as well as MS Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • 2 to 3 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in customer service

Skills and Abilities
  • Physical ability to lift, push, pull and move equipment and/or suitcases up to 75 lbs
  • Strong organizational and decision-making skills and an aptitude for problem solving
  • Strong knowledge of the roads and routes in the Ottawa/Gatineau area
  • Strong record keeping and data entry skills
  • Professional telephone etiquette
  • Ability to work without direct supervision
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to remain calm in emergency situations
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Patience and professionalism to tactfully and diplomatically interact with clients, visitors and staff
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • WHMIS/GHS certified (or willingness to learn)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Inuktitut a strong asset
  • First Aid / CPR/ AED trained (or a willingness to learn)
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) training (or a willingness to learn)
