THE ROLE Position: Dispatcher, CNS Atlantic Operations Centre Competition #: CNS 2023-03-14 Location: CNS Head Office, Bedford, Nova Scotia Reports To: Atlantic Operations Supervisor Responsible For: Dispatching of qualified staff to client worksites Working Hours: 12-hour rotating day/night shifts, up to 48 hours per week Wage: $17.50 per hour Date Posted: March 14th, 2023 Closing Date: April 5th, 2023
Duties and Responsibilities:
While duties vary by assignment, the responsibilities of this role may include, but are not limited to:
  • Protecting people, property, and information
  • Conducting on-foot perimeter and search patrols (inside and outdoors)
  • Monitoring and responding to alarm and security systems
  • Ensuring the health and safety of self and others in the workplace
  • Adhering to CNS\xe2\x80\x99 Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality policies, systems, and practices (and those of the Clients we serve)
  • Respecting CNS policies, Site Work Instructions, and Site Supervisor\xe2\x80\x99s direction
  • Other functions may include patrolling, reception/administration, reporting, emergency management and access control

Eligibility Requirements

The Dispatcher position is ideally suited to an individual with previous dispatching experience, who has worked in a fast-paced dynamic environment. An ability to match client requirements to the available existing workforce, and to communicate comprehensively and concisely the detail of each assignment is vital to success. CNS is seeking an independent and attentive individual who will commit to ensuring that the right CNS employee is dispatched with the right information to the right work location at the right time. If you enjoy working toward established deadlines and are results-driven and detail-oriented, and have a superior grasp on using computers, you may find this role appealing.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Identify appropriate personnel to satisfy customer\xe2\x80\x99s specific workforce requirements
  • Contact and assign the right employee to the right location at the right time
  • Coordinate specific needs of the customer by asking the right questions to ascertain the full scope of work
  • Dispatch appropriately skilled and capable staff on a timely basis
  • Communicate with workers and clients by telephone and electronically (email & text messages) to effectively manage workforce needs for CNS short- and long-term contracts, NMSO sites, and new client requirements
  • Seek supervisory assistance in circumstances of uncertainty or irregularity
  • Have the confidence to make decisions when appropriate
  • Electronically document any irregularities related to personnel scheduling
  • Maintain clear and complete shift notes, and communicate same to incoming workers to ensure continuity of operations during shift changes
  • Attend to building visitors outside regular business hours, when required

Candidates must:
  • Be aged 19 or older
  • Be a Permanent Resident of Canada or Canadian Citizen
  • Not have a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted
  • Be able to provide fingerprints and complete a criminal record check
  • Be eligible to apply for Government of Canada personnel security screening
  • Be able to communicate effectively in English

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Minimum six (6) months experience working as a commissionaire, or equivalent knowledge of the security industry preferred
  • Previous experience working in a dispatch or busy operations centre environment
  • Superior customer service skills
  • Able to communicate effectively via phone and email
  • Able to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment
  • Able to multi-task while staying organized
  • Able to work to established protocols with limited supervision
  • Able to read, interpret and follow contractual documents and instructions
  • Superior capability using computer-based technology at work
  • Data entry skills: minimum 35 words per minute keyboarding
  • Able to learn quickly and readily adapt to evolving business requirements
  • High degree of detail and deadline orientation
  • Have a Results-driven approach to their work
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, complemented by active listening skills
  • Demonstrated professionalism, and an ability to always remain calm and respectful
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and demonstrated sound judgement and common sense
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality, and to handle sensitive information with tact and discretion
  • Team- and customer-focused
  • A valid Nova Scotia driver\xe2\x80\x99s license or access to reliable transportation to/from work
  • Able to obtain a Reliability Security Clearance
