Position Overview:

The Dispatcher will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of truck routes, coordinating with drivers and customers, and ensuring all deliveries are completed on time. This position requires strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and a solid understanding of the trucking industry.

Key Responsibilities:

Dispatching & Scheduling:

Effectively dispatch trucks and drivers to ensure timely pick-ups and deliveries. Plan and schedule routes to maximize efficiency while considering customer needs and regulations.

Communication & Coordination:

Serve as the point of contact between drivers, clients, and management, ensuring smooth and efficient communication at all stages of the delivery process.

Route Optimization:

Monitor traffic patterns, weather conditions, and other variables to adjust routes as needed. Use routing software to optimize delivery schedules and improve overall fleet performance.

Driver Support:

Provide real-time guidance and support to drivers on the road, addressing any issues, delays, or route changes. Ensure drivers comply with safety protocols and company policies.

Issue Resolution:

Address and resolve issues related to delays, customer complaints, accidents, and other unexpected disruptions, ensuring minimal impact on service delivery.

Compliance & Regulations:

Ensure that all trucking operations are compliant with federal, provincial, and local transportation laws, including hours of service, safety standards, and vehicle inspections.

Documentation & Reporting:

Maintain accurate records of all dispatching activities, driver logs, fuel usage, delivery confirmations, and other relevant documentation. Prepare reports on fleet performance and other key metrics.

Customer Service:

Provide exceptional service to customers by ensuring timely deliveries, answering inquiries, and addressing any service-related issues that may arise.

Qualifications:

Experience:

Minimum of 2 years of experience in a dispatcher or logistics role, preferably within the trucking or transportation industry.

Knowledge:

Strong understanding of the trucking industry, including transportation regulations, vehicle operations, and logistics management.

Skills:

Proficient in using dispatch software and technology (e.g., TMS systems, GPS, and route planning software). Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize effectively. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Post-secondary education in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field is a plus.

Certifications:

A valid driver's license is required in the Province of Nova Scotia. A Commercial Drivers License and or Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) certification is a plus.

Additional Skills (Preferred):

Familiarity with Canadian and American trucking regulations and best practices. Experience with fleet management and routing software. Bilingualism (English (required) /French/Spanish/Punjabi/Hindi) is an asset, especially for communication with diverse teams and clients.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.77-$25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week

Monday to Friday Weekends as needed
