Job Description

Under the direction of the Chief Timekeeper, the Dispatch Supervisor is responsible for the daily dispatch operations. Shift work is a requirement as Winnipeg Transit is a 24/7 operation. After regular business hours, Dispatch Supervisors are the managerial staff for Winnipeg Transit's properties and equipment, making decisions and dealing will all serious incidents as they arise.

As the Dispatch Supervisor, you will:



Ensure an adequate source of manpower to fulfil regular and special dispatch by calling in extra operators when required and reassigning available personnel to priority routes. Ensure that runs are dispatched on time from garages or curtails or cancels lower priority trips in the event of equipment or manpower shortages. Provide support to Inspectors and/or Controllers concerning fills or trade-off requirements. Ensure that Bus Operators are properly and adequately equipped when leaving the garage. Supervise and assign work to Assistant Dispatchers, Change-Off Personnel, and Spare Operators. Act as the Senior Timekeeper (as required).

Your education and qualifications include:



1. Completion of a certificate program in Public Sector Management, Human Resource Management or a related field.

2. Minimum of three (3) years of experience acting as a Dispatch Supervisor.

3. In-depth knowledge of the City of Winnipeg street system and Winnipeg Transit's routes, schedules, fares, policies, and vehicle operation.

4. In-depth knowledge of MMIS, IntraView, PeopleSoft and intraOp.

5. Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.

6. Verbal communication skills.

7. Written communication skills.

8. Interpersonal skills including the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees, leaders, union officials and inter-departmental partners.

9. Organizational and time management skills.

10. Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions and recommendations under stressful, time-limited conditions.

11. Demonstrated ability to exercise effective supervisory authority.
