Job Description
The Dishwasher is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards for dishes, glassware, tableware, cooking utensils, and equipment using manual and mechanical cleaning methods. The role supports the dietary team to ensure a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen environment that meets all health and safety standards in a retirement or long-term care home setting.
Key Responsibilities:
Wash and sanitize dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and kitchen equipment using dishwashing machines or by hand as required. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dishwashing area, kitchen, and storage spaces. Ensure all dishes and utensils are properly cleaned, sanitized, and stored in designated areas. Handle and dispose of kitchen waste following infection control and sanitation policies. Assist dietary staff with food preparation and meal service as directed. Clean kitchen surfaces, floors, and equipment after meal services. Check dishwashing machines for proper operation and report any malfunctions or maintenance needs. Follow all food safety and infection prevention protocols established by the home and public health regulations. Maintain a respectful and positive attitude toward residents, staff, and visitors. Support the dietary team in ensuring timely meal service.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Previous experience working in a commercial kitchen, healthcare, or retirement setting preferred. Knowledge of safe food handling, sanitation, and infection control procedures. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and follow established routines. Good communication and teamwork skills. Physically able to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods. Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Job Types: Part-time, Casual
Pay: $18.00-$18.50 per hour
