Job Description

The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the University of British Columbia's (UBC) student society, and works to improve the academic, social and personal lives of the 56,000 UBC students at its Vancouver campus. The AMS also runs nine food and beverage outlets, a catering and conference operation, and the AMS Student Nest, providing on-campus employment opportunities and generating revenue that goes directly back into supporting the students at UBC.

$20.00 per hour



Position Purpose

The Disabilities United Collective is an AMS Resource Group that provides advocacy and support services for disabled students at UBC Vancouver. The Disability Support Free Store (DSFS) is one of those services, and provides disability support items (such as crutch tips, wheelchair accessories, accessibility software, pill timers, heat pads, and more) for free to disabled UBC students.



The Disability Support Free Store Coordinator is responsible for managing the DSFS. This includes providing consultations for students looking to make an order, managing orders using Qualtrics or similar survey software, making orders on behalf of the Disabilities United Collective using AMS financial procedures, tracking orders and the budget using Microsoft Excel or similar software, and facilitating order pick-ups through in-person office hours, as well as any other duties required to manage the DSFS.



Duties and Responsibilities

Order and stock disability support items based on discretion, order history, and on the recommendation of the Disabilities United Collective. Advise students on designing, ordering, and using on-demand or custom support items using discretion under the policies created by the Disabilities United Collective. Manage and track the DSFS budget as well as support item orders using Excel or similar software. Facilitate DSFS orders using Qualtrics or similar survey software and respond to requests in a timely manner. Respond to correspondence (email, Instagram, etc.) from students interested in ordering items or looking for advice on what to order. Hold office hours in-person from an office in the AMS Nest to distribute requested items and to provide consultations for students looking for support items. Must be available in-person for all five (5) hours a week throughout the Winter Session. Recruit and manage DSFS volunteers, as required. Other duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience

Must be a registered student at UBC Vancouver or one of its affiliated colleges. Must have knowledge of or experience with disability support items. Knowledge of or experience with AMS financial systems, such as Continia, is an asset. Experience in disability community participation with campus groups such as the Disabilities United Collective is an asset. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Qualtrics survey tools is preferred. Able to execute tasks quickly and efficiently. Strong independent worker, with strong organizational skills. Professional conduct and communication. Ability to take direction and manage time appropriately.
