Director of Mental Health and Substance Use

, where you'll lead innovative programs, champion trauma-informed and culturally responsive approaches, and collaborate with community partners to improve lives every day.


Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the successful candidate will provide strategic leadership and oversight for comprehensive mental health and addiction services, ensuring alignment with best practices, funding requirements, and organizational goals. They will lead program development, policy, research, and service delivery--focusing on trauma-informed, harm reduction, and culturally responsive approaches--while ensuring equitable access for diverse communities. The role also includes managing budgets and contracts, fostering partnerships with government and community groups, advocating for systemic improvements, supervising staff, and guiding crisis response efforts. Additionally, the Director drives continuous quality improvement through evaluation, compliance monitoring, and public communication.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a

Master's degree

in social work, psychology, public health, mental health administration, or a related field. Additional training in trauma-informed care, harm reduction, project management, or Indigenous cultural safety is considered an asset.


They should also have

7-10 years of leadership

experience in mental health, addiction, or social services, with proven expertise in managing large budgets, contracts, and funding agreements. The candidate will possess extensive experience supporting individuals with complex mental health and substance use needs, including concurrent disorders, and have strong knowledge of Harm Reduction, Housing First, and Trauma-Informed Care models.


Additionally, they demonstrate skills in policy development, strategic planning, program implementation, and building partnerships with Indigenous communities, healthcare providers, government agencies, and equity-deserving groups such as LGBTQ2S+ and racialized populations.


This role requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Information Check (PIC), and a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice.
