The Director Wholesale Finance Projects and Governance is a key leader in Capital Markets Finance, and will be responsible for leading, managing, and empowering accounting and finance professionals under your purview, making sure that the best interest of Wholesale Finance are considered when implementing new projects around Capital Markets. You will play a key role in co-piloting with the business to enhance and establish best practices in Capital Markets control framework, as well as collaborate with various Finance and functional teams and support senior leaders across Finance and the business. Current projects the team is involved in are the Murex systems implementation and US Treasury Clearing. Past Projects include the OPICS system upgrade, End-to-end Transfer Pricing Project and RBCs acquisition of HSBC Canada.

What will you do?
Lead a talented and motivated team responsible for Wholesale Finance Projects, including analyses and insights for senior management across Finance, and the business;

  • Overseeing a team responsible for review of changes to impacted financial systems and reporting. Ensure smooth operations and continuous improvement of finance infrastructure to maximize efficiency, as well as review value-added capabilities for reporting. Conducting pre and post implementation analysis to assess impacts of projects identifying gaps and optimizing performance with a lens for continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate and deepen relationships with the business and other key stakeholders (e.g., Product Control, Performance Management, IT, Risk Management, Accounting Policy, Tax and other Enterprise Finance partners) striving to be a center of knowledge and excellence for Wholesale and the first point of call for resolving financial control-related issues that arise during the project. Advocating for Wholesale Finance needs and priorities while confidently pushing back when necessary to ensure alignment with both project goals and BAU requirements.
  • Manage the Capital Markets SOX framework as it relates to specific projects, including optimization of SOX controls using a risk-based approach, identification of emerging risk areas due to project implementation.
  • Respond to a high volume of ad hoc queries relating to project deliverables and systems from either business or senior leaders, which requires immediate attention and quick turnaround.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
  • CPA designation or equivalent, with 8-10 years of experience, and understanding of SOX compliance
  • Strong team and people management abilities, and ability to play a leadership role across a wide group of peers
  • Curiosity to explore better ways of working and motivating the team while maintaining a strong governance mindset, accompanied by a drive to take ownership for and resolve issues with a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to multitask and handle high-pressure executive level requests on an ongoing basis
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with a strong ability to influence stakeholders and mobilize cross-functional groups to deliver on common goals
  • Superior organizational and problem solving skills
  • Able to consistently exercise independent thought and judgment and adapt to new tasks quickly
  • Strong interpersonal skills, due to frequent interaction with Finance Senior Management and both Internal and External Auditors, with the ability to explain complex issues in a concise and meaningful manner.
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Proactive and persistent in issue resolution
Nice-to-have
  • Experience in complex wholesale business activity, namely a thorough understanding of Capital Markets businesses and transactions, and associated risks & returns.
  • High level knowledge of Finance systems used within RBC
