As the Public Affairs and Government Relations Lead in Ontario you will collaborate to elevate Novartis profile and develop relations, win-win projects and partnerships with government. You will contribute to our mission of reinventing medicine to improve and extend people's life and position Novartis as a partner of choice entirely committed to support government in its mission to improve the Healthcare System while enabling Novartis to deliver on its business objectives.

Your responsibilities:

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement the Ontario Public Affairs Strategy to elevate Novartis profile and manage issues in collaboration with our communications and value and access departments and other departments and in alignment with the overall Novartis Public Affairs Strategy.
  • Develop and implement the Ontario Government Relations Strategy to advance Novartis Canada key business priorities and address issues in collaboration with our relevant departments and in alignment with the overall Novartis Government Relations Strategy.
  • Engage with Ontario politicians and their political staff (in government and in the opposition at all levels: federal, provincial, and municipal), deputy ministers, key decision makers and other stakeholders of the Ontario healthcare ecosystem and in general to successfully implement our strategies and continuously seeking opportunities.
  • Identify government priorities and areas of interest that aligns well with Novartis business priorities to develop or co create win-win solutions, projects, or partnerships with government.
  • Help shape public policies and lead development of Novartis positions in the context of consultations to address or mitigate risks for Novartis, and to enable a positive ecosystem for rapid adoption of pharmaceutical innovations and create opportunities that position the organization successfully.
  • Advice the leadership team and other associates on how to best navigate through government systems, with a particular focus on Health, Economic Development, Innovation and Finance Departments and how to best influence positively and interact with politicians, political staff, decision makers and stakeholders.
  • Provide a strong contribution to the development and implementation of the Ontario integrated cross functional strategic plan and collaborate with the Ontario access team and other colleagues working in access or in commercial franchises and that own responsibilities in building strategic partnerships.
Minimum requirements
  • 5-10 years of government experience (as a political advisor for example).
  • 5-10 years in Government Relations in the pharmaceutical industry or in other industries, in an association or as a consultant.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry, the healthcare ecosystem, and the political and governmental environment in general.
  • Established political network in Ontario.
