Position Summary

Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Philanthropy plays a pivotal leadership role in advancing Dixon Hall's mission by designing and executing a comprehensive, long-term Philanthropy, Fundraising, and Development strategy aligned with the organization's strategic goals. The Director of Philanthropy works closely with the Senior Leadership Team and Board Fundraising Committee and is responsible for building a sustainable revenue model through major gifts, grants, donor stewardship, events, and campaigns.



The Director plays a key leadership role focused on partnership, collaboration, and strategic execution. Working closely with the CEO and Dixon Hall leadership, the Director helps translate Dixon Hall priorities into compelling fundraising opportunities. They lead and inspire both senior volunteers and a high-performing fundraising team, fostering a culture of trust, accountability, and collaboration.



The Director oversees development strategy, ensures systems and mentorship are in place, and personally manages a donor portfolio expected to raise up to $3 Million annually. Ultimately, the director is responsible for building a lasting philanthropic foundation and ensuring that all stakeholders experience the meaningful impact of their contribution

Duties and Responsibilities

Working with the CEO, Senior Leadership Team, and the Philanthropy team, design, develop and implement a comprehensive, long-term Philanthropy, Fundraising, and Development plan aligned with Dixon Hall's strategic plan including the necessary resources (human, physical, technological and financial) to be successful with the plan. Director of Philanthropy will primarily be responsible for fundraising and revenue-generating activities. This typically includes:
+ Major gifts (high-value individual donations)
+ Fundraising events and campaigns
+ Grant writing for government, foundations, or institutional funders
+ Donor relations and stewardship
+ Strategic fundraising planning
The Director of Philanthropy will lead the development and submission of high-quality proposals for government grants, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and compliance with funding requirements. The Director will collaborate with internal teams to gather data, prepare compelling proposals, and track outcomes to maximize funding success. Develop yearly business plans to move the long-term Philanthropy plan forward. Ensure regular reporting and accountability for results (monthly and yearly). Ensure the Philanthropy/Fundraising/Development planning includes the following: planning, developing a Case for Support, data base management, donor identification and outreach, direct marketing, major gifts, grants and foundations, planned giving, donors recognition and stewardship, corporate donations and capital campaigns. Personally manage a select portfolio of high-capacity donors and prospects, leading cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies to secure 3 million in gifts annually. Partner with donors & operational leaders to translate key priorities into compelling donor opportunities. Provide coaching on when to advance prospects and when to pause, helping Staff focus on high-quality, high potential relationships. Collaborate with the Director, Marketing & communications on proposals. Cultivation and recognition strategies, and impact reporting that build donor trust and loyalty. Engage with volunteers and community leaders across expand the donor base and mobilize networks. Develops and executes Dixon Hall's event Strategy/management/planning. Leads the creation and implementation of all fundraising events. Engage and work closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications to ensure the Philanthropy/Fundraising/Development Plan has the Marketing and Communications materials needed to be successful. Champion discipline and accountability: ensure portfolios are actively managed, pipelines are healthy, and donor relationships move with purpose. Lead, inspire, motivate and manage a small Philanthropic team to work together to achieve the desired results. Develop a strong, supportive and collaborative relationship with the CEO. Support the Board in fundraising in conjunction with the CEO. Review and ensure Philanthropic policies and practices are up to date and compliant with federal CRA legislation regarding Philanthropy, and consistent with Dixon Hall's policies with regards to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Human Rights (inclusive of Indigenous Rights). Develop strong working relationships with each of the Senior Leadership Team Directors and engage them in supporting the Philanthropic/ Fundraising/Development goals for Dixon Hall and their programs/departments. Provide support and advice with regards to all aspects of Philanthropic issues and challenges. Embed rigorous prospect identification, qualification, and tracking as the foundation of program sustainability, ensuring a healthy pipeline that fuels both campaign success and long-term revenue growth. Work with the Director of Finance and team to ensure proper receipting and financial reporting related to Philanthropy. Be a collaborative and thoughtful contributor to Dixon Hall's decision-making and success with the CEO and Senior Leadership Team. Be a strong champion of Dixon Hall's mission, vision and values. Be an active, engaging and constant advocate for Dixon Hall.

Qualifications, Leadership & Personal attributes

University degree, with a CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) certification as an asset. Minimum of 7 - 10 years of fundraising experience with proven managerial experience. The role requires strong experience in analyzing government grant programs, identifying funding opportunities, and categorizing potential grants based on strategic impact and eligibility. A proven track record in securing major corporate and individual donors. Extensive knowledge of computer programs and database systems, specifically donor management software. Extensive knowledge of planned giving major gifts, corporate foundation support, sponsorship, cause related marketing. Knowledge of and successful experience with the utilization of social media as fundraising tools. Proven ability to design healthy pipelines, qualify prospects, and use data to forecast revenue and guide decisions. Skilled in volunteer leadership equipping senior volunteers to open doors and advance relationships. Strategic thinker who welcomes constructive challenge and brings fresh, creative ideas--capable of "changing the lens" and looking at opportunities differently. Strong record of leading and mentoring high-performing teams with diverse personalities and work styles. Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills. Strong financial acumen. Strong verbal and written English language skills; fluency in additional languages that are reflective of the communities in which the Agency operates will be considered an asset. Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work cooperatively with peers across different disciplines or organizational focus areas. Understanding of cultural issues and barriers as they relate to a wide range of nationalities and vulnerable groups in society. Available to occasionally work a variable schedule including some evenings and weekends. Must be qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer. Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening check with a 'Clear' or satisfactory result that meets the operational requirements of the Agency.

Working Conditions

Office environment lit by LED and some natural light. Noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles.

Physical and Sensory Demands

Long periods spent at a desk/computer or engaging in conversations on the telephone. Able to manipulate keys on a keyboard. May involve frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 20 pounds /9.07kg. Able to tolerate a variety of indoor environments as determined by program location. Required to climb stairs and maneuver through non-accessible features that are typical of the architecture in older buildings. Mobility will be a key component of this position to address the needs of our Agency locations throughout the GTA.
