Your Opportunity:
The Director, Office of the Dean, a member of the Senior Leadership Team at the Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design (DFALD), is responsible for facilitating, implementing and coordinating Faculty-wide priorities and directions established by the Dean. The incumbent is responsible for managing and supporting a wide range of high level and confidential activities related to the Dean\'s portfolio including taking a lead role in the execution of various initiatives; and consulting with individuals to address specific topics and to provide advice and feedback to the Dean and other members of the decanal portfolio. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing the effective management and coordination of external reviews, academic planning, accreditation, quality assurance, governance, strategic communications, external relations, outreach, faculty events, academic human resources management, and administrative support to the Dean.
Reporting directly to the Dean, responsibilities also include: human resources management; providing advice, briefing information and recommendations based on research and analysis on a wide range of issues and ensuring that the necessary follow up occurs; managing the Office of the Dean; attending internal and external meetings; anticipating outcomes and ensuring appropriate and timely follow up on the Dean\'s commitments; liaising with senior academic and administrative staff within the Faculty, across the University, and external stakeholders; and communicating decisions and coordinating responses as necessary in relation to DFALD issues managed in whole or part from the Office of the Dean.
The Director is a contributing member of the Dean\'s Senior Leadership Team and is the key point of contact for the Dean\'s Office with other faculties, the Offices of the President and Provost, and the School of Graduate Studies.
The duties of the position are complex due to the breadth of scope of the issues that are overseen and managed on behalf of the Dean. The Director, Office of the Dean is a strategic advisor to the Dean and has latitude to make decisions that achieve the Dean\'s priorities, and at times acts on behalf of the Dean utilizing their knowledge of the Dean\'s priorities, long-range plans, and the University\'s processes and protocols.
Essential Qualifications:
(Minimum)
Education:
Post-graduate degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
A minimum of seven years of senior level administrative management experience, preferably in an academic environment, proven success in providing superior service and support in a busy, demanding environment; experience with strategic planning, change management and policy development and implementation. Demonstrated experience with effectively managing and developing staff. Demonstrated experience in liaising with senior administrators, responding to and handling matters of a complex, confidential and highly sensitive nature.
Skills:
Superior communication skills, project management skills, analytical and problem solving skills required. Must be computer literate and have a strong facility with the Internet as well as with various software programs including Word, PowerPoint, spreadsheets and database management programs.
Other:
Strong leadership capabilities; highly professional demeanor with exceptional interpersonal and collaborative skills. Must have sound judgement, tact, diplomacy and discretion, and be attentive to detail. Must have a strong customer service orientation, excellent planning and organizational skills and be able to meet tight deadlines and perform well under pressure. Must be a fluent writer, able to concisely summarize information and provide a rationale for action. Must be able to demonstrate political astuteness and be able to deal with confidential information that has legal and labour relations implications. Management skills including budgeting, reporting, stakeholder relations, governance, and strategic planning. Must be able to work both independently and within a team environment, and demonstrate commitment to the values and priorities of the University and DFALD.
