Job Description

Kootenay Kids Society is excited to begin recruitment for this newly created leadership position.

This key leadership role will help support and guide the strategic direction and operational management of our family and clinical programs to support ongoing high-quality service delivery and alignment with regulatory standards and contractual requirements.

This is an excluded management position, and we are seeking a leader who brings both vision and practicality -- someone who has systems-level experience along with understanding of government contracts. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES



Program & Operational Leadership



With a focus on strategic leadership, the Director of Programs will champion organization-wide priorities including cultural responsiveness, accessibility, and inclusive service delivery. This role plays a key part in integrating service contracts and strengthening cross-agency collaboration to ensure cohesive, equitable supports across all programs. Provide leadership and strategic oversight to ensure the high-quality delivery of family and clinical programs that meet the evolving needs of children, families, and communities. Oversee the implementation and continuous program support of pediatric clinical services and family-centered, community-facing programs, supporting the continuation of culturally responsive, relationship-based services that are aligned with best practices, contractual obligations, and regulatory standards. Support ongoing development of programs, including program evaluation. Contribute to long-term strategic planning, budgeting, and infrastructure development in collaboration with the Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer.

Staff Development & Support



Encourage a collaborative, reflective, and results-oriented culture within the team to promote continuous improvement. Oversee recruitment, performance management, and ongoing support of staff

Program Administration & Reporting



Ensure accurate record-keeping, including confidential staff and client files, and oversee operational data management program participation metrics. Oversee and support the administration of multiple funding contracts, ensuring that reporting requirements, deliverables, and compliance standards are met across multiple contracts. Contribute to grant writing, reporting, and ensure compliance with funder expectations and government requirements.

Community engagement and advocacy



Building visibility, strengthening partnerships, and advocacy within the community

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE



Degree in health, community, social or human services, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated ability to lead programs that span both clinical services and community-facing programs. Proven experience in leading teams and managing programs with a focus on outcomes and an understanding of systems. Demonstrated knowledge of government contracts and experience communicating effectively with diverse stakeholders. Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills. Successful Criminal Record Check required upon hiring.

Kootenay Kids Society is a multi-service Non-profit with a 50-year history of supporting families and young children in the Nelson area. We operate multiple programs with over 50 staff and four locations in Nelson. Funded largely by government contracts, we deliver a wide range of programs and services including licensed childcare, Indigenous family programs, resources for childcare providers, physiotherapy and occupational therapy for young children, parent education programs, and opportunities for families to meet socially and connect with each other. We are unionized through the British Columbia Government and Service Employees' Union.
