TORONTO GRACE HEALTH CENTRE: CAREER OPPORTUNITY Director Plant, Maintenance & Environmental Services
Permanent Full-Time The Toronto Grace Health Centre (TGHC) provides specialized care and services to those individuals who require Complex Continuing Care, Post-Acute Care Rehabilitation, Palliative Care, and Transitional Care. The care and services provided at TGHC help facilitate the patient flow through the health care system and ensures recovery to those individuals who may return to their homes or to Long Term Care (LTC) facilities in their communities. TGHC operates in 3 sites ? the Main site (Church& Bloor St), Harbour Lights (Queen & Jarvis Street) houses and a Specialized Care Centre (Finch & Mc Nicoll). POSITION SUMMARY Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer, the Director Plant, Maintenance & Environmental Services is accountable for the management of the hospital?s daily physical plant, maintenance and environmental services operations and provides oversight at two satellite sites. KEY RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Provides leadership, support and direction to the EVS, Plant and Maintenance departments
  • Fosters an environment of customer service excellence, and continuous quality improvement
  • Establishes an engaged and collaborative workforce characterized by mutual trust, open communications, teamwork and recognition
  • Develops departmental policies and procedures
  • Responsible for the provision of various services with third party vendors
  • Engages and liaises with various trades to secure any necessary work or maintenance
  • Develops preventative maintenance schedules and provides supervision of maintenance repair work
  • Directing, training and scheduling work assignments for the staff of the environmental services department
  • Ensures the grounds are in good repair and the buildings are operating as expected
  • Directs and administers the housekeeping, maintenance, laundry services and all waste streams to provide a clean, attractive and safe environment for patients, staff and visitors to the facility
  • Establishes standards and work procedures for the environmental services staff in accordance with the established policies of the hospital
  • Completes routinely scheduled preventative maintenance procedures to ensure: a) the safe operation of equipment and building systems; b) the proper operation of fire safety equipment; and, c) that compliance is met with the applicable legislation. This includes regular inspection and evaluation of the physical condition of the facility and its contents, as well as the external grounds
  • Analyzes work schedules, sets priorities, expedites operations and oversees completion of reported repairs. Participates in and supports the WHMIS programs for the hospital
  • Administers a quality assurance program for the Plant and Environmental Services Department in keeping with the ?Quality Improvement Plan? for the hospital
  • Keeps abreast of the latest equipment developments and recommends the installation of new or improved equipment to increase efficiency and safety of the physical plant operation
  • Develops and maintains records pertaining to cost of operation and maintenance of the physical plant and utilities in conjunction with leadership
  • Approves orders for equipment and supplies
  • Prepares departmental budgets
  • Provides input and support to Finance/Procurement on Plant and Environmental Services related bids, proposals and contracted work
  • Manages Parking Lot and Security Function
  • Acts as the Fire Marshall (Safety Officer) of the Hospital to help prevent and control fires
  • Performs all inspections, tests and works with the Emergency Procedures Committee to implement drills to comply with the Ontario Fire Code
  • Ensures that all fire and safety regulations are adhered to and that installation and repair work meets inspection standards.
  • Responsible for day to day departmental human resources matters
  • Responsible for recruitment and selection, and employee management
QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION Education and Qualifications:
  • Professional Engineer/Technologist or Engineering/Building Technologist with equivalent experience
  • Good Understanding of applicable building and safety codes, regulations and standards
  • 5-7 years previous leadership experience in a unionized environment
  • Experience working with a physical plant environment
  • Demonstrated ability in technical troubleshooting of complex building systems
  • Strong knowledge of computerized systems, maintenance database software and business application software
  • Ability to read and understand architectural and engineering drawings
  • Knowledge and experience of managing capital projects ideally HIRF Application and Administration; FCAP
  • Demonstrated leadership, human resources and communications skills
  • Diploma or Degree in Business Management or Administration, an asset
  • Customer service oriented with solid teamwork abilities
  • Results driven with a proven ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to take initiative and responsibility and create new processes and services
  • Demonstrated project management experience including prioritizing tasks based on requirements of multiple stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Detail oriented with superior follow-up skills
  • Strong computer (Microsoft Office) literacy skills
  • Solid problem solving, organizational and analytical skills
  • Excellent ability to build strong relationships across all levels of the organization
