Director of Philanthropy and Revenue Generation

Based in Nanaimo with facilities in both Nanaimo and Port Hardy, Loaves and Fishes Food Bank is a rapidly growing, respected, and entrepreneurially driven non-profit with operations across the BC Coast. From Victoria to Haida Gwaii, we work to ensure the abundance of food available in our society reaches those who need it most.

Purpose and Summary of the Role

The Director of Philanthropy and Revenue Generation plays a vital role in the fight against hunger on the BC Coast by overseeing all aspects of fundraising and revenue generation for Loaves and Fishes. This includes donor relations, grant writing, sponsorship development, sales of goods and services, and thrift store operations. The Director is also a key voice for the organization, responsible for leading public communications, advertising, and social media engagement to raise awareness and inspire support for our mission.

Success in this role requires an entrepreneurial mindset and a track record of thriving in innovative, fast-paced environments. The ideal candidate will be proactive, creative, data-driven, and relentless in identifying and executing opportunities to grow our revenue and donor base.

Supervision: Reports directly to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning

Develop, document, and implement a multi-year fundraising and revenue generation strategy.

Donor Relations

Establish, maintain, and grow donor relationships.

Facilitate major and minor gifts.

Maintain and Develop positive relation with all levels of Government

Develop a planned giving program, focused on generating bequests

Maintain accurate donor databases.

Ensure timely receipting and stewardship of donors.

Oversee the placement and management of Empties 4 Food bins and host relations.

Grants

Identify, apply for, and report on relevant grants.

Sponsorship

Establish and manage sponsorship agreements, including naming and branding rights for Loaves and Fishes assets.

Events

Develop and oversee Loaves and Fishes fundraising events.

Support and approve third-party fundraising events.

Sales and Revenue

Grow earned revenue streams including warehouse and cold storage rental, cross-docking, goods transportation, and waste stream monetization.

Investigate monetization of carbon credits related to Food Recovery efforts.

Marketing and Communications

Design and write copy for all media formats.

Maintain and manage the website and social media platforms.

Write donor letters, newsletters, and press releases.

Support the Executive Director with public relations and communication initiatives.

Team Leadership

Lead, coach, and mentor department staff.

Participate actively in the Executive Management Team.

Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational goals.

Review

A 3-month probationary review will be conducted with the Executive Director.
Annual performance reviews will occur each February.

Terms

Status: Permanent, Full-time (40 hours/week; minimum 32 in office)
Compensation: $80,000 annually during the 3-month probation; increases to $90,000 annually upon successful completion.
Vacation: 4 weeks paid vacation annually

Post-secondary education preferred

Valid driver's license

Deep respect for the role of volunteers and the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds

Job Type: Full-time
