Carrington Group of Companies is currently seeking a qualified Full Time Director of IT Services to join our team at the Corporate Head Office located in Edmonton, Alberta.

This IT expert is responsible for a wide variety of initiatives in support of all levels of the organization. As the Director of IT Services you are someone who will evaluate IT software projects, manage the IT infrastructure team, as well as develop and implement policies and procedures for the IT department.

Job Responsibilities of the Director of IT Services

  • Lead a team of server, cloud and systems professionals within the IT department
  • Oversee and participate in the maintenance of IT infrastructure
  • Implement change management, regular maintenance, documentation and problem management processes
  • Maintain a proactive network operations center system
  • Maintain accurate information of all IT Infrastructure components
  • Lead and support execution of quarterly deliverables
  • Hire, train, develop and coach staff
  • Gather and review business requirements from various stakeholders, recommend technology and infrastructure solutions that can be integrated and deployed in the environment
  • Provide input and insight into infrastructure availability, capacity & performance and disaster recovery
  • Maintain positive working relationships with multiple vendors and technology providers
  • Ensure continuous operations of the backup and recovery systems
  • Work with each business unit's leadership to provide business relevant reporting and context of the IT environment
  • Define specifications for complex software programming applications.
  • Interface with end-users and software consultants.
  • Develop, maintain and manage systems, software tools and applications.
  • Resolve complex issues relating to business requirements and objectives for each business unit
  • Coordinate and support software professionals in installing and analyzing applications and tools.
  • Analyze, develop and implement testing procedures, programming and documentation.
  • Analyze, design and develop modifications and changes to existing systems to enhance performance.
  • Evaluate, modify, and create information systems policies and procedures.
  • Analyse current and past projects. Determine critical success path and implement strategies that ensure successful completion of projects.
  • Development of IT infrastructure budgets - 1, 3 year plans.
What Our Ideal Candidate Possess:
  • Related post-secondary education - Degree in an Technology related field
  • Minimum 6 years' of experience in IT management with 5 years' in a senior management role, providing key collaboration with senior operational leaders.
Proven experience managing, and mentoring an IT team.

Demonstrated experience and accomplishments in developing, recommending, and influencing decisions based on a strong fact based, building consensus and communicating effectively in business (non-technical) terms.

Sound business judgment, as well as ability to think clearly, analyze quantitatively, problem-solve, scope out technical requirements and prioritize

Proven experience implementing processes and delivering automation and standardization

Hands-on experience with server operating systems, infrastructure monitoring and maintenance systems, cloud services, SaaS applications, networking and SAN/storage concepts

Collaborative, proactive, strategic thinker who is provides flexible alternatives to the changing needs of the business.
  • Support ad hoc requests from business leaders for both data and financial analysis, as required.
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows, Windows Server, Office Suites
  • Advanced knowledge of database services including Microsoft SQL
  • Advanced knowledge of email services including Microsoft Exchange and Office 365
  • Advanced knowledge of Active Directory, GPO's, NTFS and share permissions, AD replication
  • Advanced knowledge of networking including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, WINS, Routing, VPN's, common ISP services
  • Advanced knowledge of backup software, strategies and recovery methodology
  • Advanced knowledge of VMWare and virtualization
  • Advanced knowledge of AD, file, email migrations and upgrades
  • An independent, self-managing work ethic with the ability to balance multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Must possess a vehicle, valid driver's license and ability to work in-office (remote work note available)
