The Position:
The Director of Instruction - Inclusive Education and Accessibility
reports directly to the Superintendent of Schools and serves as a key member of the Senior Learning Team.
Provides leadership for district-wide student learning initiatives, with a focus on supporting all learners, including students with disabilities and diverse abilities.
Oversees the planning, development, and coordination of initiatives related to the Accessible British Columbia Act*, aimed at identifying, preventing, and removing barriers for individuals both within and beyond the school district. Overseeing the Safer Schools portfolio, including threat and risk assessments
Demonstrates a strong commitment to the BC Human Rights Codeand brings experience in creating inclusive, safe, and equitable environments that uphold the rights and dignity of all members of the school community.
Required Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Certification with or eligibility for certification through the BC Teacher Regulation Branch
Master's degree in Special Education or equivalent (preferred), with relevant school and/or district-level leadership experience
Deep expertise in inclusive education practices, policies, and program delivery
Proven ability to lead and supervise large, multidisciplinary teams supporting students and families
Experience in crisis response and incident support management within school settings
In-depth understanding of provincial inclusive education policies, regulations, and auditing processes
Strong knowledge of the BC Learning Frameworkand its application in educational planning
Comprehensive background in inclusive education and inclusive service delivery for students with disabilities and diverse abilities
Training and experience in school-based mental health initiatives and supports
Demonstrated experience working in collaboration with Indigenous Nations and partner organizations
Commitment to advancing Truth and Reconciliation in education
Proven experience in managing large-scale budgets and fulfilling associated reporting requirements
Demonstrated success in collaborating with community agencies to enhance student learning and well-being
Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to navigate and resolve complex conflicts effectively
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong skills in data analysis and application to program planning and student support
Superior organizational, planning, and time management skills
Effective managerial and supervisory abilities, with a focus on accountability and team development
High standards of professional ethics, adaptability, and responsibility
Flexibility to adapt to other duties as required
The salary range for this position is determined by the BC Public Service Employer Association (BCPSEA). Placement on the salary range is dependent on qualifications and experience. Successful applicants will be required to consent to a Criminal Record Search before employment.
