The Director, Human Resources is responsible for the effective and strategic leadership, management and supervision of the Human Resources Department and the development and implementation of comprehensive human resources policies, procedures and initiatives, ensuring alignment with relevant legislation and Marymound's strategy, culture and values.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Leads the strategic design and delivery of human resource policies, programs, training and initiatives to align with organizational strategies and goals;
Participates in strategic planning activities as a member of the senior leadership team, providing recommendations based on research, metrics and organizational factors;
Identifies, monitors and analyses human resource metrics to measure trends and progress against strategic goal accomplishment;
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of applicable employment laws and legislation;
Manages the human resources team, overseeing the allocation of work and performance against goals, providing continuous feedback, coaching and mentoring;
Administers or oversees the administration of human resource programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, disciplinary matters, investigations, performance management, health and safety; and training and development;
Leads on equity, diversity and inclusion, including Marymound's Indigenous hiring strategy;
Facilitates the talent acquisition process for management and executive level positions;
Negotiates and manages complex dispute resolution matters, handling confidential issues professionally and appropriately in accordance with applicable legislation;
Collaborates on total reward and compensation strategies for staff;
Designs and implements training initiatives for supervisors on matters such as attendance and performance management, respectful workplaces, feedback, etc;
Demonstrates an active commitment towards professional growth and advancement through participation in training, workshops, etc.;
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Post-secondary education in Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations, Organizational Development or related field;
CPHR designation is required;
Minimum five years of progressive leadership experience performing a broad range of Human Resource functions including employee relations, performance management, leave and benefit administration and recruitment;
Knowledge of current employment practices, human rights legislation and the employment standards code;
Experience in Workplace Safety and Health administration is considered an asset;
Experience with human resource databases and HRIS systems is essential; experience with Payworks is an asset;
Labour relations and experience in a unionized environment is required;
Lead all aspects of union and non-union relations, ensuring collaborative, transparent, and productive workplace relationships;
Oversee adherence to all employment legislation and Human Resource best practices, balancing regulatory compliance with organizational agility and demands;
Develop, champion, and execute a Human Resource strategy and policies that align with long-term goals, ensuring the organization is well-positioned for sustainable growth and success;
Create recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies to attract top talent and ensure we are operating at appropriate staffing levels, including priority hiring of Indigenous staff.
Preferred experience providing Human Resource support to employees functioning in a 24/7 environment;
Experience in the development of Human Resource strategy and policy;
Demonstrated discretion with highly confidential information;
Superior organizational and time management skills with the ability to balance and prioritize multiple responsibilities while maintaining a keen sense of accuracy and attention to detail;
Ability to remain calm and professional while under pressure or when faced with difficult situations;
Demonstrated decision-making and problem solving skills;
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
Excellent computer skills with direct experience using Microsoft Office programs;
Valid class 5 driver's license, and access to a reliable vehicle;
Satisfactory Criminal Record and clear Vulnerable Sector checks;
Clear Child Abuse Registry and satisfactory Prior Contact checks.
