Position Overview
LFMO is seeking a visionary and community-driven Director of Health Policy and Program Development to lead our national health programming and advocacy efforts. This key leadership position involves engaging Metis communities to co-develop programs and policies that reflect and respond to their health and wellness needs. The Director will collaborate closely with the Director of Health Research to ensure that our health programming is evidence-based, culturally grounded, and community-informed.
Key Responsibilities
Policy & Program Development
Design and implement trauma-informed, culturally relevant health programs.
Identify policy gaps and develop Metis-specific health policy recommendations.
Lead the development and management of community-based health initiatives.
Integrate community consultations and research findings into program design.
Community Engagement
Lead meaningful engagement with Metis people to understand and reflect their health priorities.
Facilitate workshops, talking circles, and other community dialogue formats.
Foster strong partnerships with Metis communities, governments, and health service providers.
Strategic Planning & Advocacy
Shape LFMO's health advocacy efforts at the provincial, national, and international levels.
Represent LFMO in external forums and government consultations related to Indigenous health.
Work collaboratively with the Director of Health Research to ensure advocacy is data-driven and community-centered.
Leadership & Operations
Supervise health program staff and contractors.
Oversee daily operations of health projects and initiatives.
Support funding development through grant writing and reporting.
Qualifications
Required
Post-secondary education in Public Health, Indigenous Studies, Health Sciences, or related field.
Proven experience in health policy development and program implementation in Indigenous contexts.
Demonstrated leadership and team management experience.
Strong facilitation and community engagement skills, especially with Metis and Indigenous communities.
Preferred
Master's degree in Public Health, Indigenous Health, or a related field.
Knowledge of Indigenous health governance and policy in Canada.
Working Conditions:
This position requires occasional travel.
Occasionally, flexible working hours may be necessary.
