Director of Health





The Kee Tas Kee Now Tribal Council is comprised of the five member Nations and is responsible for providing guidance and support to the individual member First Nations in developing and achieving success in the management and administration of their own programs with the intent of developing self-reliance.



The Kee Tas Kee Now Tribal Council consists of the member Nations of Loon River First Nation - #476, Lubicon Lake Band - #453, Peerless Trout First Nation - #478, Whitefish Lake First Nation - #459 and Woodland Cree First Nation - #474. It was formed in 1995 to facilitate joint action by the member Nations on matters of mutual concern.



We are looking for energetic, hardworking people, committed to First Nation community members and their families. You work effectively with other service providers to coordinate services and supports, linking families and community members to assessments, referrals, and other mental health and addiction supports. You are familiar with mental health and addiction programs and resources in northern Alberta and can work equally well independently as well as part of a team.

The Director of Health will uphold the vision of community leadership and work under the supervision of the Chief Operating Officer & KTC's Board of Directors. The Director of Health will also possess knowledge of the health and wellness challenges and opportunities specific to each of its member communities and provide leadership to develop culturally relevant and safe community health programs and services that will meet their specific health needs.

Responsibilities:

Provide leadership and direction in the planning, organizing, implementing, maintaining, and evaluating health and wellness programs and services, incorporating input from Leadership, Community, and other health professionals to KTC's Member Communities. Have in depth knowledge of Health/Social Policy issues, Health Promotion and Community Development principles. Prepare work plans, reports, proposals. Advocate for the health and wellness needs of KTC's member communities. Ensure programs and services are in compliance with legislation and organizational policy, processes and procedures. Ensure financial management of programs and services and proactively seek out diverse funding sources to sustain health and wellness programs, including grants and funding opportunities. Conduct on going and formal performance evaluations. Be a skilled communicator with the interpersonal and leadership abilities needed to supervise various health departments. Lead and provide day-to-day supervision of health teams, staff, and contractors. Foster a cooperative and collaborative working environment through team meetings and personal leadership. Develop plans, proposals, and agreements under the direction of Leadership to help build healthy communities. Proactively build and nurture collaborative and respectful working relationships with First Nations Inuit Health Branch, various Treaty 8 region Tribal Councils and Representatives, and government agencies. Possess a high level of organizational and time management skills. Demonstrate commitment to First Nations health and wellness.

Qualifications:

Post Secondary Education in a health or social service-related discipline is required, equivalencies will be considered. Minimum two (2) years' experience of direct management experience, including human resources, finance, strategic visioning, innovation, and change management. Experience in a clinical setting would be preferred. Experience and knowledge of First Nations Inuit Health Branch, Indigenous community's health and wellness strengths and challenges, and provincial and federal health systems, policies, programs, and strategies. Certified First Nation Health Manager designation as well as OCAP certification would be assets. Experience in strategic planning and evaluation; supervision of multidisciplinary teams; proposal development; managing funding contracts; developing policies and procedures; and managing basic administrative functions. Experience in the development of culturally relevant and safe programs and services, including monitoring and evaluation. Experience in a non-profit, community based First Nation organization. Innovative and strategic thinker, with strong collaboration, problem-solving and negotiation skills. Knowledge of healthcare regulations and compliance Knowledge of public health principles, disease prevention, and health promotion to improve community health outcomes. Proficiency in budgeting, financial planning, and financial analysis to ensure effective resource allocation, cost control, and sustainability. Proficiency in the use of computers and various software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other related computer software;

Conditions of Employment:

RCMP/Police Criminal Record Check submitted prior to commencement of employment. Proof of professional designation and/or educational requirements.



Clear Child Intervention Check must be submitted prior to commencement of employment.



Candidates must possess valid driver's license with access to a vehicle and must be capability, and flexibility in working in and travelling to KTC First Nation communities.
