Position Overview
As a Full-Cycle Accountant, you will play a crucial role in managing the financial operations of our Association. This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer. Your responsibilities will span the entire accounting cycle, from recording transactions to financial reporting. You will work closely with other team members to ensure accurate financial records and compliance with relevant regulations.
Responsibilities
General Ledger Management:
Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Reconcile and record all financial transactions, including donations, grants, and expenses.
Prepare journal entries and adjust accounts as needed.
Maintain fixed asset/PPE schedules, including capital additions/disposals and depreciation.
Accounts Payable and Receivable:
Ensure payables and receivables are processed according to policies and procedures.
Prepare GST/HST returns, claiming appropriate rebates on invoices.
Banking and Cash:
Perform daily cash flow reporting and manage timing of payments as necessary.
Liaise with bank authorities.
Ensure bank reconciliations are completed monthly and assist where needed.
Cashflow forecasting
Financial Reporting:
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Generate reports on budget vs. actual performance.
Be responsible up to and including the draft annual audited statements..
Multi-Year Budgets and Forecasting:
Collaborate with program managers to develop and monitor budgets.
Provide financial insights to support decision-making.
Forecast cash flow and financial needs.
Financial modeling or forecasts
Compliance and Regulatory Requirements:
Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.
Assist with annual audits and liaise with external auditors.
File T3010 charitable return and maintain accurate records.
Financial Analysis:
Analyze financial data to identify trends, anomalies, and areas for improvement.
Provide recommendations for cost-saving measures and efficiency enhancements.
Other Duties:
Participate in organizational meetings and contribute to financial discussions.
Support grant applications and reports by providing financial information.
Collaborate with colleagues on special projects as needed.
Ensure proper funding, grant tracking, and business analysis for programs
Support commercial tenant management with lease agreements, rent collection, and tracking occupancy costs.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent work experience
CPA designation (or in progress)
Minimum of 5 years of experience in full-cycle accounting
Experience working in a not-for-profit and/or charity using restricted fund accounting
Knowledge of QuickBooks accounting software
Experience preparing and managing multi-department budgets
Comprehensive understanding of GST and Canadian payroll procedures
Ability to lead the organization's strategic direction related to all aspects of its finances
Excellent leadership skills
Strong communication skills that facilitate effective collaboration across all levels of the organization
Highly organized team player with great attention to detail and accuracy
Quick learner with a strong work ethic
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
