Director Of Finance

Montréal, QC, CA, Canada

Job Description

About Us

We are a fast-growing international startup with our core operations based in Canada and employees distributed across multiple countries. Our customers and sales are global, and we're scaling quickly. We have recently closed a significant funding round, providing a strong foundation to accelerate growth, expand globally, and strengthen our operations. We're looking for a Director of Finance to help us build the financial foundation for long-term growth, ensure compliance across jurisdictions, and provide strategic insights that guide decision-making at the highest level.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a startup environment -- a builder who is comfortable balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution, rolling up their sleeves to create structure, and scaling processes in a fast-paced, ever-evolving setting.

Role Overview

As Director of Finance, you will be a key member of the leadership team, reporting directly to the CEO. You will lead financial strategy, establish and improve core processes, and implement scalable systems to support our global expansion. This is both a strategic and operational role: you'll partner with leadership on high-level direction while also taking ownership of day-to-day financial operations to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership + Partner with the CEO and leadership team to shape financial strategy, planning, and long-term growth.
+ Build financial models and forecasts that guide decision-making and resource allocation.
+ Advise on capital allocation, risk management, and growth initiatives.
Financial Operations & Controls + Design and implement financial systems, processes, and internal controls that can scale with the business.
+ Oversee accounting, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and financial reporting.
+ Ensure compliance with Canadian regulations, as well as with international tax, payroll, and financial reporting requirements.
+ Establish and manage banking relationships; lead efforts to secure and maintain credit facilities to support growth and working capital needs.
+ Lead participation in Canadian government incentive programs, including SR&ED claims, ensuring accurate documentation and maximizing eligible credits.
Global & Cross-Border Finance + Build scalable financial infrastructure to support operations across multiple countries and remote offices.
+ Oversee tax filings, transfer pricing, and cross-border compliance in partnership with external advisors.
+ Support international expansion by setting up efficient financial structures and processes.
Stakeholder Reporting + Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and dashboards for the CEO and Board.
+ Track key business metrics, analyze performance, and present insights with clarity.
+ Lead budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes, ensuring agility in planning as the company grows.
Team & Vendor Management + Build and lead a finance function from the ground up, scaling the team as the company grows.
+ Manage relationships with auditors, banks, tax advisors, and other financial partners.
+ Negotiate terms and maintain ongoing relationships with financial institutions to ensure adequate liquidity and financial flexibility.

Qualifications

CPA, MBA, or equivalent experience. 10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience, including proven success in a startup or high-growth environment where systems and processes were built from scratch. Deep knowledge of accounting principles, corporate finance, and compliance across multiple jurisdictions. Experience establishing and managing banking relationships and credit facilities. Demonstrated experience leading SR&ED tax credit processes or similar government incentive programs. Strong analytical and modeling skills; ability to translate data into strategy. Track record of implementing scalable systems and processes in resource-constrained, fast-growth settings. Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to partner effectively across teams and cultures. Fluency in both French and English (spoken and written).
