We are looking for an experienced Senior Finance Consultant (Director level) to join a dynamic non-profit organization in the metro Vancouver area, British Columbia. This is a long-term contract position where you will play a pivotal role in overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance, and contributing to the strategic vision of the organization. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in fund accounting, financial reporting, and leadership to help drive organizational success.
Responsibilities:

  • Direct and manage key financial functions, including the administration of restricted funds, support for donor services, payroll oversight, asset stewardship, and submission of compliance documentation.
  • Generate monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial reports with accuracy and timeliness, and play an active role in budget creation and review.
  • Track spending against approved budgets, deliver variance analysis to executive teams, and help maintain fiscal responsibility.
  • Uphold organizational and regulatory standards by ensuring all funding is properly allocated and reported according to donor and legal requirements.
  • Coordinate the audit cycle, liaise with third-party auditors, and assemble all required materials for examination.
  • Create, update, and enforce financial protocols that reflect best practices and organizational priorities.
  • Oversee liquidity, investments, and banking partnerships to maintain robust financial health.
  • Advise leadership on financial strategy to support decision-making and long-term business planning.
  • Lead personnel across finance, donor relations, and payroll functions, encouraging an environment focused on openness and ongoing enhancement.
  • Work closely with program managers and outside partners to guarantee grant funds are utilized and tracked efficiently.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience in fund accounting and grant accounting, preferably within the non-profit sector.
  • Expertise in financial reporting, including month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory audits, compliance, and filing requirements.
  • Proficiency in cash flow management, forecasting, and analysis.
  • Familiarity with accounting systems such as Sage Intacct or similar ERP platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead audits, prepare financial statements, and manage restricted funds.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate teams.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and attention to detail in financial operations.
