The Director of Finance & Administration is responsible for all financial activity for both the Association and the APEGNB Foundation for Education, for which they will support the Board of Directors and coordinates all scholarship/prize applications.
The Director also coordinates annual membership renewals in collaboration with the Director of Registration.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in accounting, financial management, and compliance, with proven leadership skills. This role requires knowledge in effective fiscal planning, risk management, and strategic development as a key support to the governing Council and CEO.
Responsibilities
Financial Management
Oversee all aspects of financial accounting (reconciliation, analysis, payables, receivables, cash flow management, monthly statements)
Coordinate the annual audit and ensure records are accurate
Manage payroll and staff benefits program
Manage regulatory reporting requirements and ensure compliance with governmental and no-for-profit accounting standards
Develop and implement strategic financial plans (budgeting, forecasting, cost control, profit & loss analysis)
Conduct risk analysis and manage risk mitigation strategies
Supervise investment management, cash flow analysis, and fiscal management initiatives
Ensure integrity of financial data through account reconciliation using financial software
Prepare and interpret financial statements and support audit processes
Maintain expertise in regulatory changes and ensure compliance
Membership & Administrative Support
Work with the team on registration and renewals of membership and certificates of authorization
Assist in maintenance of membership database
Provide secretarial and bookkeeping support (including donation receipts) to the APEGNB Foundation for Education
Office & Facility Management
Direct and oversee management of office equipment and supplies
Oversee all maintenance and contracted services for the Association building
Other
Perform additional duties as required
Experience
Extensive experience in corporate finance or non-profit accounting, with
8-10 years in senior financial leadership roles
(e.g., CFO or Finance Director).
Professional accounting designation
and/or
a post-secondary certificate, diploma, or degree in a related field.
Strong background in Financial analysis; Budgeting and forecasting; Cost management; Investment management; Fiscal planning.
Solid understanding of accounting processes and systems, with ability to learn new software as needed.
Proficiency in budgeting and financial management.
Ability to interpret database reports and learn new systems quickly.
Experience using advanced financial software for: General ledger accounting; Balance sheet reconciliation; Account analysis; Reporting tools.
Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.
Excellent computer skills and oral/written communication abilities.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, handling sensitive material with complete confidentiality.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage stress well.
Skilled at assessing situations and making timely, clear recommendations in the best interest of the organization.
Exceptional interpersonal skills and collaborative approach.
Bilingualism in English and French would be considered an asset.
