The most rewarding jobs often provide the most challenges. The Saskatchewan Science Centre is seeking to fill a uniquely rewarding and challenging position: Director of Facilities and Exhibits.
As the Director, you will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer and a small but mighty team of maintenance technicians. Together, you'll improve, maintain, and update all aspects of the Science Centre - from the Physical Building to the Exhibit Floor and the Office Spaces to the Playground - and everything in between. A key focus will be modernizing our maintenance processes, creating clear documentation, and introducing and enforcing preventative maintenance protocols.
You'll supervise all staff and contractors involved in the setup, operation, repair, cleaning, and maintenance of our exhibits. You'll also contribute to the research and development of new exhibits, ensuring they provide exceptional learning experiences for visitors.
Ernest Shackleton's legendary advertisement read: "Hazardous journey, small wages, bitter cold, long months of complete darkness, and constant danger. Safe return doubtful. Honor and recognition in event of success." While we can't offer quite the same level of adventure, we can promise a few things:
No hazardous journeys or bitter cold (except maybe on your drive to work during a Regina winter)
A competitive salary of $70,000 per year, plus health benefits and an RRSP program
No months of darkness, but a fun and dynamic working environment
Recognition for your team's role in educating and inspiring tens of thousands of visitors each year--many of whom will become future champions of science
Much like Shackleton's crew, the right candidate will possess a range of specialized skills:
Technical Expertise: Can you troubleshoot electronics down to the component level, solder circuit boards, program an Arduino, or design an 3D print a required part?
A Hands-on Attitude: Whether it's woodworking, fixing plumbing, or installing a shelf, you love to get your hands dirty.
Leadership Skills: You set clear expectations, lead through coaching, and motivate your team to embrace better ways of working.
Long-Term Thinking: Can you avoid shortcuts today that might lead to issues tomorrow? When you do take a shortcut, do you have the follow-up to correct it?
Process-Oriented: You love SOPs and preventative maintenance schedules. You believe that learning and following the best way of doing something is key to long-term success.
Cost-Effective Creativity: You enjoy finding creative ways to solve problems, maximizing value while minimizing expenses. Your solutions often bring a fresh perspective that surprises and delights.
And no, you don't need sailing experience--though we do have a lake nearby if you'd like to canoe during lunch!
