The Director of Education is responsible for delivering a high quality personal customer experience by ensuring that the ongoing educational needs of Sylvan families are met and that our education programs are delivered by teachers as designed. To ensure a personal learning experience, the Director monitors student performance, meets regularly with families, and connects with school teachers to help ensure the application of skills learned in the classroom. The Director also observes and coaches the teaching staff, ensuring robust instructional experiences. When the Center Director is unavailable or not in the Center, the Director of Education serves as the point-of-contact for customers and manages Center operations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Supports the Centre Director in delivering assessments to students, updating lesson plans, and preparing teaching materials.
Teach the Sylvan curriculum in a 3:1 setting to students when necessary. Candidate will interact with and motivate students during instruction, and evaluate and document student progress after instruction.
Manages and delivers all conference activities such as preparing conference materials and meeting with parents to keep families enrolled in Sylvan.
Ensures that all teachers are trained and certified to deliver Sylvan programs and monitors teachers performance.
Motivates and develops staff by providing ongoing learning opportunities.
Monitors student progress to ensure goals are achieved and ongoing family needs are met.
Conducts parent conferences on a regular and timely basis, with appropriate documentation.
Maintains regular contact with the schools via teacher conference either in-person, via e-mail or over the telephone.
Communicates with the Centre Director any concerns regarding student progress or instructor performance.
May also be required to make school visits, establish and maintain relationships with schools for partnership and marketing purposes.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field from an accredited university
Minimum of one or two years of teaching experience preferred; Experience in supervisor role preferred
Knowledge of current BC educational curriculum and policy
Previous retail and/or sales experience preferred
Be comfortable working with computers and have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge of iPads and Zoom an asset.

Proven ability to discuss and sell Sylvan products and services to new and existing customers
Be a self-starter who is able to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities. Candidate is also articulate, organized, professional, detail-oriented, and able to problem-solve in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
Proven ability to communicate effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience
Ability to work collaboratively; strong team player
Ability to work a flexible schedule
Have reliable transportation (vehicle preferred)
