Metis Nation-Saskatchewan (MN-S) is seeking a dynamic and visionary
Director of Communications and Storytelling
to lead strategic communications and marketing initiatives across the organization. In this pivotal role, you will shape how MN-S shares its story--promoting programs and services, supporting ministry updates, and advancing the government's strategic objectives.
As a trusted leader, you will guide a talented communications team, oversee integrated campaigns, and ensure MN-S's voice is consistently clear, impactful, and aligned with the Nation's vision for self-governance.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing communications and change management team.
Design and implement integrated communications strategies to enhance visibility, awareness, and engagement.
Ensure consistent storytelling across campaigns, media relations, events, and digital platforms.
Partner with ministries and departments to create unified, impactful campaigns that promote participation in MN-S programs and initiatives.
Storytelling & Communications
Oversee event promotion, media relations, advertising, and social media strategies.
Guide internal and external communications, including organizational announcements and change management initiatives.
Build and maintain strong relationships with media, stakeholders, and community partners to amplify MN-S's message.
Strategic Alignment
Collaborate with senior leadership, ministries, and external partners to ensure cohesive communication efforts.
Develop strategies to mitigate reputational risk and provide direction on issues management.
Monitor, review, and report on communication metrics to evaluate impact and improve engagement.
Optimize communication channels, including Microsoft Teams, Outlook, intranet, video, and live events.
Change Management
Design and implement structured change management frameworks, including stakeholder analysis, readiness assessments, and training programs.
Lead the organization through significant transformations while ensuring alignment with cultural protocols and governance priorities.
Assess organizational impact and develop strategies to address risks and challenges.
The Person
Visionary leader with strong strategic communication expertise.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects, teams, and priorities in a dynamic environment.
Skilled in governance, decision-making, and anticipating organizational needs.
Preference for those with deep knowledge of MN-S's journey to self-governance, the Treaty (Kishchi Mashinaayikun Ooshchi Michif*), and Metis history, culture, and protocols. Experienced in Indigenous marketing strategies, community engagement, and government relations considered an asset
Strong problem-solving, issues management, and interpersonal skills with the ability to thrive under pressure.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, or a related field; OR a minimum of 10 years of progressively related experience.
Five or more years of management experience is considered an asset.
Demonstrated success leading comprehensive strategic communications, media relations, and marketing programs.
Minor in Indigenous Studies and/or extensive knowledge of MN-S governance, programs, and services is considered an asset.
