Nisga\xe2\x80\x99a Valley Health Authority (NVHA) oversees four Health- and Wellness facilities located across the Traditional Nisga\xe2\x80\x99a Territory. Located 100 km Northwest of Terrace, bordering British Columbia\'s rugged Northwest coast, the Nisga\'a Lands are blessed with soaring mountains, dramatic lava beds, picturesque fjords, and thriving rivers and crystal-clear streams.
Currently NVHA has recently redeveloped our Health Care Delivery/Health Promotion Service Model and is seeking vibrant, self-motivated and innovative individuals interested in playing an integral part of cutting-edge Indigenous Health Programming and Service Delivery within the beautiful Nisga\xe2\x80\x99a Territory. The role of the Director of Communications, is primarily responsible for:
Job Summary
Plan and execute internal and external communication and engagement strategies to advance health programs and services initiatives. Have superior written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills and is extremely detail oriented, capable of managing multiple projects. Capable of productive innovation, meaning he/she brings new ideas for content and communication approaches to the table, but uses intuition and a keen sense of observation to understand what will be effective, and consistently meet deadlines. Do it all when it comes to writing. From original storytelling in newsletter articles, video scripts, speeches and presentations, to succinct operational communication in memos, briefing notes, web copy, newsletters and more. Work with the Senior Management team to provide input on communication strategies to implement and execute communication tools and tactics necessary to engage internal and external audiences on the issues, changes, opportunities and everyday successes happening in health services delivery. Have outstanding public relations skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with a broad group of internal and external stakeholders, and listen closely for insight effective engagement. Attend Team Leads and Senior Management meetings, coordinate special events, conduct interviews and write original copy for numerous communication channels, and liaise with colleagues to assess emerging communication priorities. Serve as a point person by investigating and flagging potential good news opportunities, identifying emerging issues, and other related issues as required.

  • Demonstrated experience with video production.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate events and forums to advance stakeholder engagement with organizational initiatives.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to independently research, prioritize and assemble details for all aspects of a project or initiative.
  • A results-oriented and enthusiastic team player who thrives on new challenges and responds nimbly to new priorities.
  • Ability to negotiate communication solutions that are aligned with organizational needs.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and the willingness to work across individual roles to deliver collaborative communication solutions.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and ability to work well under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
  • Contributes to a team environment by working efficiently, professionally and in a friendly manner, and establishes and maintains a harmonious working relationship with all colleagues.
  • Advanced computer skills in organizational electronic communication technology, publishing and web-based communications.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

Employees working for NVHA must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Education or experience equivalent to an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline such as Journalism, Communications, Marketing or Public Relations.
  • A strong communicator with five (5) years\xe2\x80\x99 recent, related experience.
  • Previous experience working in health care or a public sector environment is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Northern BC Health Care environment
  • Self-directed, innovative and efficient
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge/ability with computer applications including audio and video equipment
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks and organize time appropriately
  • Must have a valid BC Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License
  • Knowledge of the Nisga\xe2\x80\x99a Language and Culture a definite asset
