The Director of Care is accountable for directing and mentoring care staff to ensure resident focused care is achieved, maintaining accountability of the nursing staff to ensure that resident focused care is appropriate and implemented. Promoting departmental activities to maintain high quality resident care. Central responsibilities include mentoring the staff to ensure the assessment of nursing care, planning and implementation of programs to meet resident needs, as well as the coordination of ongoing care education at the Care Home. An ability to communicate effectively with residents and their families, staff and others in the community is essential.

We are seeking a motivated Director of Care to manage a brand-new care community in Aldergrove. The Director of Care is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating and supervising resident care and well being within the Care Home.
Director of Care Responsibilities:
- Facilitate and promote the interdisciplinary approach within the home through the Nursing, Dietary, Environmental Service and Administrative Departments.
- Work with the Medical Director to ensure that medical attention and records are in compliance with regulations.
- Facilitate Care Conferences and meet with residents and families to resolve problems/concerns.
- Investigate all problems, concerns and complaints.
- Review resident applications for admission and assist with processing of admission and discharge papers.
-Manage the drug administration program including administration of medication by all registered staff; Ensure that health care records are in compliance with regulations and quality care for the resident.
- Manage staff in a pro-active manner, in conjunction with the Contracted Staffing Company, through supporting the goal setting and regular performance review.
- Ensure and monitor staff knowledge and compliance with the Resident Bill of Rights, Care Home policies and procedures and Health & Safety Standards.
- Participate in setting goals for the facility and develop action plans to achieve those goals. - Maintain a safe, high quality living environment for residents and work environment for staff.
- Comply with relevant Provincial & Federal Acts and Regulations;
- Manage the Infection Control Program;
- Undertake administrative duties as required;
- Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity.
- Other duties as assigned;
Qualifications:
- Minimum of one year of experience working as a Registered Nurse in the long-term care sector; A minimum of three (3) years relevant experience in long-term care;
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse.
- Completion of Nursing Unit Administrator Program, BScN, MN, or equivalent and a program in Gerontology or equivalent would be an asset;
- Current C.P.R. designation is required;
- Demonstrated leadership and communication skills;
- Possession of strong motivational, team building and time management skills;
- Must be computer literate in Microsoft Office Suite as well as PointClickCare.
