Your Opportunity:This position is a crucial member of the Emergency / Disaster Management Leadership Team and is accountable for the development, implementation and evaluation of overall strategic and operational plans to support emergency management and business continuity within the North zone. Using professional judgement and experience, the Zone Director works both independently, and in a team environment with minimal direction. The position considers organization wide initiatives aimed at achieving long term Divisional and organizational goals. The Zone Director is a subject matter expert in all areas of emergency/disaster management and aims to position the Zone for response to unplanned events while sustaining critical business operations. Common duties and responsibilities include the supervision, mentoring and management of a small team of professionals; creating and maintaining relationships with clients, internal and external partners, and with Zone Leadership; establishing Zone emergency management priorities and managing implementation initiatives at the Zone and Site level; assessing, analyzing and reporting to Zone and Divisional leadership on the status of E/DM deliverables; ensuring compliance with legislation, regulations, standards and established business processes.Description:The Director is a crucial member of the Emergency / Disaster Management Leadership Team and is accountable for the development, implementation and evaluation of overall strategic and operational plans to support emergency / disaster and business continuity management within the North Zone. The position works both independently and in a team environment with minimal direction to: identify risks, mitigation strategies and planning needs of the Zone: provide leadership and expertise in emergency/disaster management in the Zone; collaborate and serve as the Zone contact and liaison with multiple external agencies in planning and preparing for, and responding to emergencies and disasters; provide support for business continuity and contingency plans that will enable the zone to continue operations during service disruptions i.e. failure of internal and/or external critical infrastructure, network outages, staff shortages, etc. Responsible for: implementation of plans that reflect a partnership with municipal, provincial and federal agencies; provision of staff training; design and delivery of exercises within the Zone; compliance with legislation / regulations and accreditation standards. The position plays a key role in incident management within the Zone by sustaining the incident management structure, providing training, supporting activation of the Zone Emergency Operation Centre (e.g., serving as the Planning Section Chief or Liaison Officer), conducting post incident reviews and producing xe2x80x9cAfter Action Reportsxe2x80x9d. The Zone E/DM Team is recognized by internal and external partners for its expertise and leadership in emergency/disaster and business continuity management.

Required Qualifications:Master's Degree required in a related area. Minimum of 5 years' experience in a managerial / leadership role including management of personnel and material resources. Minimum of 5 years' experience in the field of emergency and disaster management. Knowledge of Accreditation Canada Standards for Emergency Management in Healthcare and CSAZ1600. Certified in ICS 100, ICS 200 and ICS 300. Trained and experienced in Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) activations; familiarity and experience in functioning in ICS roles within an EOC. Knowledge of adult learning principles with experience in using training/instructional methods appropriate to adult learners. Advanced oral and written communication skills; active listener. Social and political perceptiveness; politically astute and aware of others' reactions. Critical thinking skills; uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
Additional Required Qualifications:Complex problem-solving skills: identifies complex problems, reviews related information, develops and evaluates options and implement solutions. Decision making skills; ability to weigh the positives and negatives of each decision. Interpersonal skills; required to work with senior leaders, all levels of staff, government and external agencies. Time management skills; able to manage work in an efficient and timely manner and delegate appropriately. Negotiation skills; bring others together to reconcile differences. Service oriented; actively looks for ways to support customers. Active learner; striving to remain current; understanding the implications and value of new information. Competent Computer based skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet based research essential, knowledge of Visio desirable. Experience and skills in system analysis; determining how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes. Experience in Business Plan development. Experience in Project Management as a lead and / or participant Training and experience in: Exercise Design, Emergency Social Services (Reception Centre), Business Continuity Management, Basic Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosive Training, Crisis communications, Critical Incident Stress Management /Psychological First Aid /Road to Mental Readiness.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience in a health care field or profession desired. Experience in management of financial resources. Experience and skills in systems evaluation; identifying measures or key performance indicators and the actions needed to improve or correct performance. Knowledge of, and experience with applied and scientific research techniques. Knowledge of legislation, regulations and codes that impact emergency planning and response in Alberta.
