Job Title Director, IT Application Portfolio Manager


















Portfolio Manager

  • Manage all development delivery against mission critical SOC1/SOX applications and productivity tools.
  • Directs the work – scope, schedule etc - of the development teams. (eGL, CGID, CDIC – FID/RID and other mainframe applications and modern applications)
  • Responsible for architectural decisions for all relevant applications in line with the agreed strategy and roadmap.
  • Shape the future technology direction of Finance IT (front, middle and back office)Responsible and accountable for the stability, performance, production, compliance, roadmap strategy and development initiatives for applications in the portfolio
  • Contributes to successful project completion within budget and on time by identifying risks and developing/recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Provides consulting services to business partners on new initiatives (medium to large of varying complexity).
  • Conducts research, develops and presents feasibility studies and proposals on strategic initiatives.
  • Develops measures and monitors ongoing effectiveness of IT services for assigned business line(s).
  • Researches emerging trends/best practices and determines implications of proposed solutions on meeting business unit strategy.
  • Recommends business solutions that satisfy sponsor/stakeholder needs continually exploring and assessing options for value-add for clients.
  • Together with Project Manager and team, determines best mix of development, interfacing applications, third party vendor solutions to meet business requirements and project objectives.
  • Lead authority in identifying, quantifying, and building common reusable application components across the application portfolio and their continuous integration within a business aligned technology roadmap
People Management
  • Lead, coach and develop 7 to 10 highly skilled and diverse IT professionals and lead offshore teams
  • Motivate and challenge to create high performing collaborative teams necessary to deliver effective financial solutions.
  • Establish quarterly expectations and provide constructive feedback using TalentLink review framework.
  • Identifies resources and skills required.
  • Succession planning
Development & Coaching
  • Provides direction, expertise, feedback, coaching and development to build the capability of more junior staff.
  • Continually enhances skills and builds knowledge in all aspects of the organization, the business and information systems.
  • Career and performance management of the development team ensuring collaboration, compliance, capacity management, motivation etc for the team. Includes planned ramp-up and down with projects, fiscal planning etc.
Relationships & Communication
  • Facilitate joint planning with business partners in the early stages of project formation
  • Acts as main contact between business line (s), interfacing applications, 3rd party vendors, IT Executive and/or Project Managers.
  • Key member of Executive Steering Committee as it pertains to the impact of projects on the applications in the portfolio
  • Key voice to the business on the application, roadmap initiatives, annual initiative planning and escalation point for the business development/project related issues.
  • Provides Strategic direction for the applications in the portfolio. Supports IT and Business 3-5 year roadmap strategies ensuring application development and initiatives align to these strategies.
  • Participates in, and contributes to, application governance meetings as well as Executive Steering Committee meetings, as required.
  • Participate in and moderate IT work prioritization meetings.
  • Develops criteria for and participates in the evaluation of 3rd party vendors and software as well as due diligence exercises.
  • Facilitates complex group meetings and conducts information gathering sessions.

Business Analysis & Consulting
  • Manages high level business requirement phases identifying, tracking and resolving business systems issues.
  • Assesses researches, analyzes and documents sponsor/stakeholder needs in accordance with Project Life Cycle and CMM deliverables utilizing reporting tools, requirements. Identifies tracks and resolves business systems issues.
  • Contributes to successful project completion within budget and on time by identifying risks and developing/recommending mitigation strategies.

Supports various Enterprise Finance, Group Risk Management and Canadian Banking units across the enterprise including business platforms, functional units and legal entities. Works directly with the various Enterprise Finance, GRM and Canadian Banking leaders to enhance efficiency and effectiveness by further leveraging common / enterprise-wide technology solutions. (e.g. eGL, CGID, Canadian Deposit Insurance Calculation and Reporting, Fast Insurance Determination, Unclaimed Balances, URF, Loan Loss Provisioning and Reporting and Alrets)
