System Job Title: Leader 9 Internal Assurance

Leader: Managing Director, Internal Assurance

As ATB's next Director, Internal Assurance, and specifically Director of the Enterprise Level Focus Centre (ELFC), you will be accountable for providing direction and oversight to Business Partners in the assigned Focus Area, under the joint leadership of the Vice-President and Managing Director of Internal Assurance. This role will include oversight over the development and execution of assurance and advisory programs intended to assess the design and adequacy of key controls within head office business units. In addition, it will include active participation in development and execution of the department's operating plan. Areas of emphasis include financial, operational and process related risk management responsibilities within diverse portfolios, including:

  • Chief Financial Officer
  • Chief Risk Officer
  • People, Culture, Brand & Communications
  • Sustainability, Relationships & Impact.
The position directly influences the successful achievement of the department's mandate and engagements that provide assurance, valuable risk management insights to ATB's lines of business and strategic support units. Specific accountabilities include:
  • Lead, coach and support team members in the delivery of a range of assurance and advisory services focused on strengthening business resilience, managing risk and driving business performance.
  • Monitor and manage the integration of technology, customer, data analytics, efficiency and other expertise into assurance, advisory, compliance and policy-review engagements across a variety of subject areas and processes.
  • Advise business partners on risk, governance and business management issues and opportunities to strengthen risk responses, build resilience and optimize transformation and agility.
  • Focus on results and continuously seeks ways to get things done in challenging circumstances while inspiring the team to achieve exceptional results.
  • Coordinate efforts through strategic audit planning and cycling to ensure departmental resources are focused on key areas, processes or projects that impact achievement of organizational objectives.
  • Support the Vice-president and Managing Director with reporting to ATB executives, senior management, the Audit Committee and the Board of Directors by gathering, consolidating and analyzing information for your area of responsibility.
  • Actively participate with other members of the leadership team in setting and achieving departmental strategic goals and objectives.
  • Manage budgets for areas under your direct control and actively work to manage costs and improve efficiency while meeting departmental objectives.
Requirements:
  • Successful completion of a recognized professional designation in accounting, finance, auditing, or a graduate business, finance or management degree; CIA, CFE, CISA, CFA accreditations desirable
  • Minimum 5 years of related and progressively responsible management or leadership experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience with internal audit, external audit or risk management, ideally in a financial institution or audit role.
  • Evidenced and ongoing professional development in the areas of governance, internal control, internal auditing and risk management.
  • Thorough knowledge of audit/risk management practices and assurance/audit department operations and activities.
  • Thorough knowledge of banking and business processes with understanding of assurance/audit principles and practices; control standards and practices in the banking industry.
  • Ability to understand Data Analytics and its application in assurance/consulting engagements
  • Good understanding of Agile principles and its application to Internal Assurance Proven leadership skills with experience in mentoring and coaching team members and the ability to motivate others to achieve personal and departmental goals. Strong collaborator with excellent relationship-building skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication, strong interpersonal, influencing, and negotiation skills to gain acceptance of issues and ideas.
  • Self-starter who works well independently as well as in team activities both as the leader of the team and as a member of the team.
  • Proven time management and administration skills with the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Ability to research and implement best practices in risk assessment, auditing, risk management and project delivery.
  • Experience with methodologies for auditing information systems, SAP experience would be considered an asset.
  • Proficient in G-Suite tools.
