Are you looking for a role that will challenge you?Would you like to make a difference in the Environment?Our Whiteshell Laboratories (WL) site located near Pinawa, Manitoba is looking for a Director, WL Intermediate Level Waste (ILW) Retrieval. The Director will have oversight and authority over the ILW waste retrieval processes being utilized. This includes the Robotic Standpipe and Bunker Waste Retrieval System (SBWRS) and the Manual Retrieval project. The Director is accountable for the management of cost, schedule, scope, and technical performance of the project. They provide oversight and leadership to all functions. They will provide detailed reporting and communication on project status, with an emphasis on timely identification and resolution of issues and correcting variances to plans. They will oversee the management of the joint venture contracts, as well as the CNL operations required to support the project. This position is hands-on and emphasizes developing strategies that will be implemented to achieve the goals and objectives of the project.Does this pique your interest?   • Ensuring appropriate execution of the project and oversee management of contracts.
  • Directing oversight and management of joint ventures contract strategies for waste retrieval operations.
  • Directing oversight of project staff responsible for the performance of the site specific preparation activities.
  • Directing the personnel performing the scope of work, and implement project management including responsibility to plan, control and monitor the execution of all project work.
  • Managing budget, schedule and scope responsibility for work ranging from $20M to $40M annually.
  • Forming financial decisions that have a large impact by strategically planning, maintaining, and governing.
  • Maintaining a field presence to monitor activities and verify safe work, quality, and procedure compliance.
  • Ensuring project work is performed safely and in compliance with requirements of the Site License, Quality Assurance Program and Facility Authority.
  • Proactively identifying potential schedule delays and develop strategies to mitigate risks.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to prioritize tasks and allocate resources effectively.
  • Conducting regular reviews and assessments of project progress.
  • Coordinating prompt resolution of field problems and issues regarding safety, non-conformance reports, condition reports, stop work orders, and corrective action reports.
  • Resolving complex issues that arise by addressing, executing, and guiding towards a resolution.
  • Setting plan priorities, providing guidance and direction, and monitoring activity implementation.
  • Overseeing all project operations, maintains budgeting responsibilities, and responsible for staffing own organization.
  • Providing detailed reporting and communication on project status, with emphasis on timely identification and resolution of issues and correcting variances to plans.
  • Developing relationships, engagement and consultation strategies/delivery plans to achieve corporate objectives and lead a structure approach to regular communications with stakeholders.
  • Managing day to day contact with the client and stakeholders and reports back through the organization to ensure alignment.
  • Providing oversight of safety, operational performance, quality, and business improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Analyze complex problems and develop innovative solutions.
  • Make key planning and execution decisions that are sound and reasonable to keep the project moving forward.
  • Troubleshoot situations and work with peers and other stakeholder to resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate financial understanding is required to review and manage financial performance requirements in a complex organization, to ensure the branch operates within budget.
  • Demonstrate excellent project management skills, including cost, schedule, and scope management.
  • Effectively direct and work with others using proven director level skills and above-average communication skills (written and oral).
  • Foster excellence in relationships, with respect to key managerial competencies.
  • Consult with Organizations for standards and guidelines (e.g., IAEA, CSA, etc.) on technical aspects of decommissioning and quality control.
  • Engage members of the public to help address issues and communicate plans with regard to safe execution of work.
  • Build relationships and networks with a large number of individuals and entities within the organization (stakeholders, customers, contractors, etc.) to promote CNL and WL.
  • Use initiative and apply judgement in an environment of changing and often conflicting priorities.
  • Work well under pressure with competing priorities.
  • Demonstrate leadership to initiate and lead change processes.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Experience
  • 10+ years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in nuclear decommissioning.
  • 10+ years\xe2\x80\x99 experience encompassing, radioactive waste packaging and transportation .
  • 10+ years in a leadership role.
  • Must have a waste management background.
  • Experience and technical background sufficient to lead the planning and execution of nuclear waste retrievals and processing.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and understanding of complex project schedules.
  • Demonstrated business sense and financial knowledge to adequately plan, manage and monitor Division budgets to meet financial objectives.
  • Familiar with developing site waste management plans and directing the development of long-range forecasts for all waste activities.
  • Experience with all jurisdictional radiological waste transportation and disposal regulations is required.
  • Familiarity with various elements of project management systems and the tools used to plan, implement, track, and report on project performance
  • Previous knowledge / experience with the workings and products of Primavera scheduling software, formal risk management frameworks and project scope breakdown and cost account structures would be beneficial.
  • Experience with remote-operated equipment and robotic is an asset.
  • A working knowledge of federal and provincial regulations that impact on waste management, including those of the Nuclear Safety Act is an asset.
Education
  • Bachelor\'s degree or higher in engineering, environmental science, nuclear engineering, or related field.
  • Advanced degrees such as Master\'s or Ph.D., would be considered an asset.
  • Certifications or specialized training in project management, waste management, nuclear safety, and regulatory compliance advantageous.
Security clearance eligibility requirement
Level 2 Secret which has a minimum requirement of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom . CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat\'s \xe2\x80\x9cStandard on Security Screening\xe2\x80\x9d and the \xe2\x80\x9cPolicy on Government Security.\xe2\x80\x9dWorking Conditions:
  • Working at a desk for extended period of time.
  • Walking and standing for extended period of time.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in a variety of temperatures ranging from +30 to -40 C for short period of time during walk down in the field.
  • Must possess normal physical agility necessary to perform all aspects of the work that involves bending, lifting and mobility.
  • Must be capable of wearing and working in protective clothing and using equipment as required.
